    XDm slide lock issue

I was doing some dry fire practice with my XDm 5.25 9mm tonight and saw that my magazines were not locking back the slide when empty (no snap cap). I have had this gun for a long time but unfortunately I haven't spent much time with it so this surprised me. I took to the slide off of the frame and inserted a magazine into the bare frame so that I could get a better look at what was going on and confirmed that the magazine follower just did not lift the slide stop lever enough to do anything. I tried several magazines and they all displayed the same problem. So off to the internet I went...

Most people were saying that they or other shooters were riding the slide release with their thumb, which is certainly a cause for malfunction of the slide stop, but not my problem.

I found a youtube clip were a guy had the problem and believed that the slide stop spring was too stiff. He created a video that demonstrated a way to remove the slide stop spring and compress it a little so that the spring was not so stiff. I did this and sure enough it worked great.

I just wanted to throw this out there in case others were having similar issues with their XDm's. I don't know if it's an XD or XDs issue as I do not have one of those.

Here is the clip if anyone is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlt0vbyLKI0

I had the same issue with a new xd. Come to find out the magazine springs were incorrectly installed causing the follower to not tilt up correctly.

Only issues I had with my XDms was the magazine spring.... All my magazines would get a stuck follower right when there was around 11-13 rounds left. It was so bad that if I took the magazine out and held it upside down, bullets fell out... Fixed it by buying stronger springs

I had a similar problem and it was the way the 19 round mags were blocked. Fixed the mag blocks and didn't have anymore problems.

Good to know. On my standard XD I had a similar problem with it the slide not locking back, beyond just what my long thumbs normally do. I ended up getting the Pistol Gear slide stop and some stronger mag springs. Seems to have fixed the problem but that may have been beating around the bush if this was the core of the issue. I might try doing this as well for an extra measure.
