I was doing some dry fire practice with my XDm 5.25 9mm tonight and saw that my magazines were not locking back the slide when empty (no snap cap). I have had this gun for a long time but unfortunately I haven't spent much time with it so this surprised me. I took to the slide off of the frame and inserted a magazine into the bare frame so that I could get a better look at what was going on and confirmed that the magazine follower just did not lift the slide stop lever enough to do anything. I tried several magazines and they all displayed the same problem. So off to the internet I went...
Most people were saying that they or other shooters were riding the slide release with their thumb, which is certainly a cause for malfunction of the slide stop, but not my problem.
I found a youtube clip were a guy had the problem and believed that the slide stop spring was too stiff. He created a video that demonstrated a way to remove the slide stop spring and compress it a little so that the spring was not so stiff. I did this and sure enough it worked great.
I just wanted to throw this out there in case others were having similar issues with their XDm's. I don't know if it's an XD or XDs issue as I do not have one of those.
Here is the clip if anyone is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlt0vbyLKI0
