    AR pistol buffer tubes

I'm planning out a pistol build and I see pistol buffer tube kits, but looking at them they use standard carbine springs & buffer weights. So it seems like the only difference is the tube in that it doesn't have that bottom channel to fit collapsible stocks.

So am I right in thinking that a typical carbine buffer kit works fine, the only difference being I don't install the stock and just put some foam padding on it & call it good?

Also, because of the shorter barrel, are heavier buffers really necessary to slow down the bcg? Or should I stick with the carbine weight and only go heavier if there's cycling problems? The upper I plan to use is a 10" 7.62x39.

In my opinion get a pistol tube or thordsons cover etc. Simply leaving a foam pad on the end of a carbine adjustable buffer tube is riding the line of constructive intent. If you even had a random stock laying around that pistol can now be readily made into a SBR.

As far as the weight, I run a standard buffer in my .223 pistol, however the 7.62x39 I only have experience with the 16" build and it takes a standard buffer weight as well. I don't know if the shorter gas build up time will cause a greater bounce back where a slow down would be needed.

Need a pistol pro to chime in here.

In my opinion a carbine reciever extension should not live on a pistol. As stated above, riding the line. I have the kak tube on my pistol. It's really well made.

I personally think the KAK shockwave and the SIG brace are also riding the line, approved or not but that is again just my opinion, gives a R/O or LEO just another reason to walk up and ask questions. Anyone that has used one or seen one in person may agree. For me it is only a tube and foam cover or a thordson cover and a cheek riser/rest only. Plus for active shooters that foam on the cheek actually works and gives you a nice steady aim.

Thanks guys, I was focused on the mechanical workings that I didn't even consider the possibility of an overzealous misinterpretation of SBR. Guess I'll stick with a pistol buffer. Kinda leaning towards a Phase 5 hex tube.

If you install an adjustable gas block you can use a carbine buffer or a 4.2 oz tungsten powder buffer, your choice.
