S&W model 60, no dash price check

What's it worth? No box or papers, no dash, off roster 38spl. 98-99%. I think I'm asking too much. Thanks

It might help a bit if you tell us what you're asking...

I sold a similar one, no dash as well, before for $550. The buyer had been looking for the exact same one so he did not haggle. However, I did not get any other bites before he contacted me.

I got it on consignment for $550 plus tax, so I even lost money on it. Now, I personally think $400 - $500 is the range. I may be wrong...

$600 may be too steep for the "regular" buyer. A really motivated buyer who has been looking for one for a while may buy it at that price, though. You never know...

OK I'll dump the price, I just want it out of my safe.

$500 is a fair price in my humble opinion. Face it, non-lock Smith & Wesson revolvers in good condition are climbing in value and people will pay a premium to get them.

OK, $500 it is. No clue what non lock means lol.

No worries, sir. The current crop of S&W revolvers incorporate a key-activated internal lock mechanism that many find undesirable, making the earlier non-lock versions more in demand.

A lot of prices on your stuff I've seen seems high but if it actually sold I guess it wasn't. There is some truth to the saying things are worth what someone will pay for them. $600 is a bit steep but not totally unreasonable in CA for a prelock off list nice condition model 60.

Does it have a pinned barrel? $500 I think it may sell. $400 would sell quicker. Below would be real fast. Strangely though I saw an early model 60 languish unsold in a popular gunshop for months at $350. I think people have mainly gravitated to plastic guns and semiautos but there is still a decent market for such guns.

I personally like snub revolvers a lot but I prefer hammerless or concealed hammer versions. Keep in mind you can't gouge a revolver as high in CA due to the SAE exemption but not everyone wants to jump through those hoops and has ro be on a 3in or longer barrel revolver.

                      At $500 I've seen 60's in lgs sit 6 months+.
More than $500 K/L/N frames become a quicker sell.
Airweights, scandium snubs, and any of the limited edition J's always seem to end up on either hand, buy goes for the lighter gun regardless if its a wrist cracker.

Most of the new subcompact buyers want a baby glock, Shield, etc before shopping for a J.
The "5 for sure" thing doesn't seem to appeal to them.

I Swan - I bought my 66-3 2.5" 6 months ago for $600 in a store. Many seem to keep consignments just to have a full shelf that costs them nothing.

Internet pricing is one thing, but LA and Bay Area in store prices aren't that bad on consignment revolvers.
Many prices were comparable to what I see on S&W forum.

I have similar observations as to the posts above. I have seen S&W 60's sell for $600 on this site and slightly less on gunbroker.com. The fact that they are off roster makes their value slightly increase. I have also seen them sit for sale on consignment in gunstores.

I own a S&W 60 2", it was awarded to me for being the high shooter in my police academy. To me, it is a fun gun to shoot at the range, but for self defense, it is a paperweight. With a 2" barrel your effective range is severely limited. Add one or two inches and you significantly increase the effective range.

Unless you're desperate for cash, don't let it go for less than $500. They will never make them like that again.

                              Paperweight? lol seriously?

Effective range of the 2" M60 is only limited by one's shooting ability. At 25 yds I can frequently keep 50 rnds in a pie-plate size group, my partner can do better than that; conversely, I know many officers that can barely hit a target at 25 yards with a 5-6 inch handgun. At 0-5 yards, the Top Gun from the Helen Keller Community College police academy, module D program could likely hit their target with a 2" M60. :-)
