    FNH FNP-9 9mm worth it?

So I'm researching the FNP 9mm because I think it's overall a really good value for the prices I'm seeing it sold at (around $400-550) although it's been discontinued. I think it's a great looking gun but it seems too good to be true.

I just want to know if I should invest in one and why I'm seeing it sell rather cheap even with the included 3 mags. Is there something about it I'm missing? I'd like to know if there is still support for it in case I need to send it back to the manufacturer to get something fixed or replaced. Any thoughts on the gun are appreciated!

Main uses are range time and HD. Not looking for anything fancy or tricked out.

I see some in 40 cal for sale. Any thoughts on getting one in that chamber?

I bought and sold mine a couple years ago for around that price range. Great value for the price, and would fit well for your requirements.

My issue is that the mags would not always drop free, and I was looking for a competition gun, so I let it go. I can't comment about support for it, since it ran great while I had it.

It was my first gun, lightweight, easy to shoot and dependable. Never had a jam. It's very balanced with a full mag, its not too small for early shooters.

It is classified as a full-sized pistol, well grip area anyways. A little slick, not much checkering.

You'll have to watch for the born year. For some reason FNH distributed these out of order and certain serial pre-fixes were shipped way late into the game. The earlier serials had weaker fire control groups that were prone to cracking. FNH replaced these with the later versions and it is to my understanding that they will continue to warranty the current ones out there.

Head over to the FN forum and search for "FNP crack" for more info. Other than that, great semi-ambi pistol. Mags are coated with a slippery layer to ease with insert. Not sure about the dropping free issue described by Sent.

Case in point, you are in BNIB Glock, Springfield, Shield territory. A bit more will net you certain Beretta, CZ, and Sigs in the 600-650 range. Even more will net you the HK P2000 in the mid-700 range.

Had one for a year, never a malfunction. Trigger broke like an orange peel in SA, smooth in DA. Not much checkering.

Also look into the Browning Pro-9, it's almost exactly the same gun. Hard to find though.

I've had my FNP-9 for 6 years now and its a fantastic pistol. 2000 or so trouble-free rounds.
Great trigger, accurate, comfortable grip(s), thoughtful controls placement. Only downside is a limited amount of accessories. Otherwise one of the best values in polymer 9mm.

. . .One of the best values in polymer HAMMER fired pistols. I personally believe that the HK variants and the Sig SP2022 or Sig P250 are better choices in that category, but they are a bit more money.

I have the 40cal version and I really like it. Only downside is that it is kind of hard to find accessories like holsters. Might be easier these days. I haven't looked in a few years.

Woah thanks everyone! I read all the replies up to this point! I'll check out the alternative guns listed as well and keep in mind the serial numbers of the FNP9's. I did hear about cracking issues at the rear of the frame, doesn't seem to affect function of the gun but it is a bit worrisome to see it. Looks-wise, I think I'm sold on the FNP9.

Had one as my first centerfire handgun. Liked it, but ended up selling it. Don't think you would be disapointed.

I don't have a FNP-9. instead, I have a FNS-9. I like the feel of it. I haven't shot it yet, but I am sure it will shoot good. One of the things that I noticed was its barrel is kind of thin compared to other pistols.

I had one and it turned out to be a great gun for me at the time...it was the second gun I ever bought. As an owner of a Glock as well, I like the FNP-9's trigger much better. It was reliable and ran when dirty. I went through a period of several months and over a thousand rounds without cleaning it. It never malfunctioned. It's great value if you can find one and it's an excellent gun for shooters with smaller hands. I sold mine for $450 about two years ago. The only reason why I sold it was because I replaced it with a CZ P-01.

Love my CZ. I have a P-09 FDE that is my current grail. I want the FNP9 to have as a spare handgun and be my "beater" if it needs to be but I intend to take care of it to the best of my ability nonetheless. If anyone knows anyone selling one, I am ready with cash in hand!! Help a Calgunner experience what you all have before!!

The mags can be kind of pricey. There is a calgunner on here right now with 3 mags for 20ftf ea or 25 shipped. here is the link. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...0&highlight=fn
