    Sig P220 slide lock half/broken

    Hi all, first post here.

I recently purchased my first handgun, a Sig P220. After a recent range visit, I came home to clean the gun and noticed the external thumb part of the slide lock broke off. This is after about just under 1,000 rounds and I only picked up the gun a few days ago. It still locks in place after I empty a magazine, but the lever itself is hard to manipulate with my thumb due to it being very sharp where the the padded thumb lever used to be.

    My questions are:

    - Is this common to happen to handguns or Sigs in general?
    - What's the best course of action to get this fixed? I already ordered a replacement slide lock, but unsure how difficult it would be to replace it myself.

    Thanks!

Should be fairly straight foward to replace. In the meantime I'd just "sling shot" the slide to rack a new round. I never use the slide release myself. No, it is not common to Sigs at all. In fact, I've never heard of one breaking in my entire career. Slides cracking? Sure.

Whoah, send it back! That's unacceptable on any gun, especially a new one!

I've been around Sigs for 25 + years. Never have heard of a slide release breaking. Obviously that's not right. I'd send it in to Sig and let them send you a new slide release.

Thanks all. I'm going to see if the local gunsmith can replace it. If not, I'll be sending it back to Sig.

If you take it to a gunsmith, make sure you take it to a Sig service center. Better yet, the FFL you bought it from. You shouldn't pay a dime to have this fixed.

Hello, the slide stop is one of the parts I have had to replace on my Sig. It is a simple drop in part that can be replaced in about five minutes with no tools needed. Head over to youtube and watch a video on Sig frame dissassembly and it will show you all you need to know to get it done.

Should be able to save some time/money over getting your gun to a smith or back to Sig for repair.

Probably a pourly made mim part. Sig quality has really dropped since that kimber guy took the wheel. Definitely send it back to Sig if you're the original owner. Any work done by a non Sig certified Smith voids the warranty.

Agreed. And PLEASE at the very least let them know about it. They will send you the part for free if you want. Are you the original owner? If so you have a lifetime warranty.

You could easily replace it yourself, its about a 3 min job and all you need is a screwdriver to take off the right grip.

That's a stamped part from sheet metal. Must have been metal fatigue when it was bent during manufacturing. Call Sig and let them know. It's an easy part to remove/install, but if you're not comfortable doing the work Sig will tell you where the nearest servicing shop is.
