    1911 build kit

I wish to build my first 1911, I haven't built any gun before but wish to start on this one, I have enough AR's.

I am seeking advise for a quality, inexpensive kit online or sold by someone on here? What is the best source of guidance?

I am a cerfitied heavy equipment mechanic and also dabble alot with gas motors, can build my own motors, systems, etc, I am only saying this to claim that I have the abilities (I think) to build a relativity simple component, such as a gun....

Let me tell you from experience, there are no cheap 1911 80% builds. Cheapest is to buy the 1911builders kit. You can find complete kits from other vendors as well, but they will be around the same price which is around $1k. There have been a couple of kits in the market place but they go for around $7-800.

Building a 1911 is no where near as easy as building an AR 15.

Thank you for the feedback, sounds like more trouble and effort then I care to get into at the moment, for a 1K I will just go buy a brand new pistol w/ life warranty

Maybe it's confirmation bias, but it seems like every time I turn on the interwebs there is something about 80% 1911s. I have become obsessed with the idea. I watch Mosin Virus for hours. I pour over the Kunhausen books. I signed up for a couple armorers courses. I am going to build one. I know it is going to be expensive and illogical. But being able to think "I built this"---priceless.

In order to be CA legal, it needs to be built as a dimensionally compliant (minimum 6" barrel length & minimum 10.5" overall length) bolt-action single-shot pistol or as a dimensionally compliant (minimum 6" barrel length & minimum 10.5" overall length) break-top/open single-shot pistol. If you do decide to build a 1911 from scratch, but your ignition system as a kit. Hammer, sear, disconnector.
