38 S&W SPL

Help with identifying this 38. My grandfathers gun that has been passed to me.
Serial # L95961 or 31604 I have those 2 #s on the gun

Looks exactly like my g-pa's Mod 36.
Can't load pics but mine doesn't have that small circle at the top side of the frame just beneath the rear sight. Otherwise identical save for the trigger work, and painted sights.
Most accurate gun I shoot.

Looks a lot like my "36", but I don't think yours is a model 36.

That snub nose pistol is from 1950 or so. Model 36 was its designation after 1957 or so. The serial # is 31604. The other number is a part number. Nice classic handgun you have there

Actually the barrel marking on old S&Ws is ".38 S&W Special".

You're not often wrong, but it is properly called .38 S&W Special. As well, the barrels are even marked as such.

Bottom pic looks like a Webley Stevie is correct it is an Enfield.

Well, I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong and, it looks like I was wrong. Just note, there is a big difference between ".38 S&W" (shorter brass and larger diameter bullet) and ".38 special"/".38 S&W Special" which is the rimmed .38 cartridge that is widely available today.
