    Colt Diamondback .22

I have the opportunity to buy a Colt Diamondback .22 6" barrel blued metal from a neighbor who bought it new I believe in the late 70's. I'm a S&W guy and don't know much about the Diamondbacks. Not sure if it has the box, but it's as close to mint as one can be. No noticeable cylinder turn ring. The seller wants $1450. This seems to be on the low end of online pricing (without a box). I'd appreciate any information on this beauty....and it is a beauty!

If he has the box and original papers then kindly pay the asking price. Before you do that go and buy a bottle of wine or whisky and I'm not talking about a $12 bottle. Go for the $35-50 kind . If you get the $100+ it's still ok.

After the PPT is done say thanks to him by giving him the spirits.

Diamondbacks are fantastic guns; they are kind of like a Python's slightly less attractive sister. Still way above the fit/finish/quality of most other revolvers and highly sought after.

I regret every day that I sold my 6" Diamondback. Most beautiful 22 revolver I ever owned.

I've owned Diamondbacks in 38 Special and 22 Caliber. Accuracy was very disappointing.

Since you said you are fond of Smiths, don't expect the Diamondback to be as strong or accurate as your S&W's.

However, if you are buying it as an investment, it's probably a money maker. There are a lot of guys who want discontinued firearms. Regardless of what the guy is like, once it is no longer available, then it becomes desirable. It's the old, once I say you can't have it, you want it. And, the price war begins.

My only regret in selling my Diamondbacks is that I sold them too soon.

Seriously, That is my remaining grail gun and at that price you cannot go wrong. In fact you should offer him the market price.
