I can see a few advantages, if you're not a reloader 9mm is usually cheaper than .38 or .357.

Also in SHTF situation having one of those in your bug out bag gives you the ability to use two of the more common handgun calibers found in the USA.

If you put one of those on right after you buy your brand-new revolver it would save the original factory cylinder from having that turn line that unfortunately is not as easy to remove as carbon from your well used revolver...
Helping with your resale value later on (But remember to be honest about how many rounds you put downrange.)

The one negative I think it's going to have a high MSRP and until there is competition will probably stay there.

I have to imagine there's a fairly sizable market, if priced correctly... and that someone at S&W is watching closely.

I notice the cylinder notch is cut in the center of the chambers like an odd shot number cylinder.. wonder if it will work with the 7 shot.. that would be cool...

Two concerns with this product.

First, it's my understanding that it is never as simple as popping in another cylinder. There are timing issues that usually require some amount of tuning to insure that cylinder/forcing cone alignment is good and that the gun shoots correctly (and safely).

Second, there are going to be issues with accuracy. Standard bullet size for 9mm is .355/.356. Standard size for .38/.357 Mag is .357/.358. Not a huge difference but enough that groups with the replacement cylinder won't be as tight as with the original cylinder. How much they open up...I'm not sure. But you will see some level of accuracy loss.

Korth has been around since the 1950s. Their revolvers are considered to be some of the finest in the world.

Nope. The original 686 is a 6-shot. The 686+ came out later and added one more round to the capacity.

Personally, I LOVE the idea of shooting 9mm in 38/357 revolvers---but---the successful revolvers that do this trick are fitted at the factory with the extra cylinders (Ruger Blackhawk 9mm/357revolvers). I am not so much worried about the difference in bore size, I am worried about timing issues and the small matter of cylinder gap---I am not sure this can be done successfully with a "drop-in" unit, but I 'll keep an open mind on this. Then there is the matter of price---Korth (and I've been exposed to several of their ultra-expensive guns when I was in the firearms business for many years) tends to produce very pricey products---think Rolex type prices---again, I willing to keep an open mind on this issue until I see the price…
I would very much like a four inch stainless 686 (or even 686+) that shoots 9mm!

Is it easy to change out the cylinder? I think I would be interested, does anyone know how a 9 mm round does down a 357 barrel?
