    Open EDC Choice

I'm a bit conflicted on my first handgun purchase between a Gen 3 Glock 19 and a SW 686P. I go to school in Montana but am a CA resident, so open carry is my only option while out here. Thoughts in pointing me in the right direction?

My handgun experience is limited to about 500 rounds through my dad's Python and 1000 rounds through his ruger .22

A Glock wouldn't do you wrong.

I'm a big fan of revolvers, but the 686 probably weighs twice what a Glock 19 does, and the revolver is a lot wider and gets in the way. IMHO carrying a semi auto is a lot more comfortable than carrying a revolver.

        Glock it.
Just don't make it easy for others to snatch it out of your holster so choose a real secure one that you can use well.

If able to open carry, I would carry a open carry a nickle Colt SAA and a semi auto as a CC.

I also hunt hogs back in CA with my dad. Would a 9mm put down a pissed off pig?

can anyone link me to a decent glock thigh rig? it averages about 15* here in the winter, so its hard to keep a hip holstered weapon uncovered when im wearing a heavy coat

I put down with a horse with a 9mm; dropped like a rock. That was from about a foot away and a straight on head shot. So, yes, a 9 would kill a pig but you better be a really good shot.

Get a Utah permit. You will be legal to concealed carry in MT.

Glock 19 is perfect for that.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

357 and up for pigs is my advise. Depending where you hunt feral hogs in CA if there are lots of thick brush. I would hate to shoot one with a pistol caliber and the pig runs into the thickest brush. A cornered injured pig will charge if it has enough life in it. My favorite pig gun for 200 yards and down to the kicking distance is my NHM-90 and 91 with 10mm 1911 inside my hip holster.

Yes, as well as AZ and FL and many others.

Those 3 are probably the best to get. Heck, MT even honors CA permits.

MT is a wonderful place to visit, NOT carrying there is outside the normal....

this is amazing information to have, i had no idea. does Idaho offer this? that's a much easier drive than utah or arizona from here

no way in hell will i ever get a CA CCW in santa clara county unless the sheriffs of the state start taking the outcome of Peruta vs San Diego to heart. less than 1% of the state is allowed to carry, im not even going to bother while there's something like 20k applications just sitting in limbo

AZ, FL, and UT is recognized in ID and MT.

All 3 you apply in the mail, you don't need to drive there.

CA is not that hard, if you live in the right county. Many of us have it
