Question about the 'new' S&W classics

Is it me or are the grips on the 'new' classic model re-releases narrower than the originals? Would the old grips fit (with minimal modification) to the new ones?

Thanks in advance for any information / opinions, Ox

Old grips will fit. I did not notice that new grips are narrower. Are they really?

I could be wrong but they seem like it to me. I used to have a 4" model 19 back in the day so it's not like I'm comparing just holding one in a gun store...

I had a post lock 586 and the older grips would fit. I also have a post lock 66 that currently sports older grips.

You could be right that the newer grips are narrower. I am not sure. I just never noticed it and never heard of them being the case.

Kinda look narrower in schmidt's pics, but in any case they are definitely cut different.

I have a Model 27-9 from the "classic" series of revolvers and use the older N frame square butt targets, and I use older round butt combats on my 686 2.5". You just need to have the right frame size and butt configuration, but all the old grips fit. And yes, the newer target stock are definitely cut smaller, narrower profile.

As long as they have that funny little hole in the side they are not "classic".

The old grips on the n frames are huge; the new ones appear to be much more manageable.
Check back later for a witty comment.

Kills me that CA says I can't buy (from out of state) a 70's era 19, 27, 29, etc unless it's a PPT or by modifying it to SA only.

For pete's sake, it's just an old six shooter!
