HELP: Threaded barrel question on handgun

    Hi all,

I have a Glock G35 and would like to permanently attach a compensator to it.

I do not have a threaded barrel: can I legally buy a threaded barrel in CA? Can I possess it?

I assume I CAN buy and possess a compensator.

Any help is appreciated (even referrals).

    Thanks,

    Gman46

    In a nutshell:

    1) Yes, you can legally purchase a threaded handgun barrel in California.

    2) Yes, you can legally possess a threaded handgun barrel in California. But please note that while California's AW statute does not include "constructive possession" language, the case of People v Nguyen upheld the conviction of a gent who had the parts to make an illegal assault weapon on the basis of "attempted possession."

    3) Yes you can legally purchase and possess a compensator in California.

    4) If you install the threaded barrel on a pistol having a detachable magazine, then you have created an "assault weapon." That's a felony if the weapon is not registered as an assault weapon under PC 30900, or if you do not possess a permit for the weapon under PC 31000.

          OP,
I believe Lone Wolf (and others) make compensated barrels for your Glock.
It's just an extended barrel with ports cut in the top at the end of the barrel.

Buy the barrel, put it in the slide, pin and weld it. But as others have said, do not install the slide on the frame until it is done.

I'm sure you already know that making the comp installation permanent your barrel & comp assembly is also permanently assembled with the slide. Cleaning it will take a bit more effort, but that's the price to pay installing a full compensator with a Glock.

If you want to ensure that you stay legal at all times, and not go through too much trouble, just buy a few hundred down pillows and shoot through those. I believe they have a rating of around 125dB attenuation.

EDIT: Never mind - somehow I read "suppressor" when I read the title of the thread......

I'd be really intrigued as to how you install the barrel with the slide still on the gun

Barrel has to be in the slide when permanently pinning the compensator. No other way around it. Glock design won't allow passing the barrel through the front.

Pretty much this. If it were threaded you assemble the Glock then screw on the compensator. But if you weld it, how would you brake down the pistol?

My understanding is that if the is sufficient clearance/gap between comp and slide, then barrel will move enough to be cleaned, but cannot be removed

                              Two options:

                              1) Weld the compensator on threaded barrel. Can be moved to clean but not removed once installed.

                              2) Extended ported barrel.

Personally I'd opt for the extended ported barrel. Something like this:

Lone Wolf Arms is the largest manufacturer of aftermarket parts for Glocks. We also have M&P Shield, Beretta/Taurus, and Browning Hi-Power parts.

However... Do you shoot Open already? Do you reload? Major/minor? Have you tried a single action in 38 Super yet?
