    M&P rear sight removal

I can't seem to get the set screw loose on the rear sight. I took a heat gun to it thinking there might be loctite, but I either stripped my 1/16 wrench or the screw, or both. Any suggestions?

It's red loctite... you need to get it to 500 degrees to release it (without killing the plastic parts under it.

Microflame torch, or a soldering iron.

Use blue or green Loctite when you reinstall.

Use a pencil type soldering iron.
Put the tip right on the screw.
Be patient, the sight itself should start to feel warm before you try to loosen the screw.
        This takes a few minutes.
Then try to get the screw loose again.
If it does not come loose with moderate pressure, warm it up some more.
Once I had mine hot enough it came out easily.

Thanks guys.. Never would have thought these guys would use red. Ridiculous. I'll put a soldering on it and see if that works. Figured blue if anything.

I can't get the macro to work. I'm irritated and going to bed. Up at 5:30 to hit the range for a couple hours and super pissed about this rear sight. Installed an Apex FSS and need to change out the striker block and spring. I also have some new sights I was going to put on.

you maybe be able to use a metric or fractional size allen wrench to bite or even a torx bit. Just make sure you heat the screw enough to smoke the loctite.

A new good quality allen wrench might also help if yours is worn or soft.

Yes, I'll try a few tricks tomorrow after the range.

Not yet... there's no round-bottom slot from the attempt to use a Dremel to allow a screwdriver access.

But last resort, since you're changing sights anyways, it IS an option to CAREFULLY slice through it.

But honestly, I'd take it to a good shop before taking a Dremel to it.

Lmao.. I actually thought about cutting it with a dremel. I think I saw a tool that grips stripped screws like this. I'll see if I can find one.
