    Rust or Slide Abrasion?

Recently I shot my RIA 1911, and didn't clean it the day of shooting. When I got around to cleaning it I noticed discoloring outside of the chamber. Is this rust or is it the slide just scratching up the metal?

I'm not very familiar with RIA, but most of my guns (Sig, Ruger, S&W M&P) have stainless barrel and/or I have bought stainless drop-in barrels.

          What material is your barrel?

Regardless, even stainless does not mean, "rust-free". In any case, looks like it is very light surface, "whateveritis" and should rub out easily. No need to worry!

That looks like wear from the slide rubbing the barrel during cycling - but can't say for sure as the photo it difficult to read.

                    I vote slide wear/blemish.

sure looks like oxidation to me. Very light, but still. Where did you store it?
Are your other guns in the same area ok?

If it was properly cleaned and lubricated at least once, shooting it without cleaning it did not do that.
More damage is done by overcleaning than by undercleaning.

I think that might have caused the issue, it was in an area that was near an open window and was not covered by a case or gun sock.

I think it's light oxidation. My RIA barel has the same thing. Took it off with a light rubbing of steel wool and oil.
