    Sig P229 in 9mm

Tried a search but all I found was someone having issues with PMC ammo in a .40.

How has this firearm performed for you? If feels great in my hand and is on my short list of "wants."

I use Freedom Munitions on all of my Sigs but also use all big name factory load including PMC once in a while and no problem.

I have one in .40 (mid 90s vintage), and it is a solid, accurate and reliable handgun. Being an avid Glock and Steyr shooter, my only gripe would be the relatively high bore axis. It has slightly more muzzle rise than my G23. It has been absolutely reliable with everything I've put through it.

I picked up my Sig P226 9mm yesterday, took it out of box and put 250-300 rounds through it. I did not clean or lube it. The only issue I had was my grip would cause the slide not to lock back after the last round, after I readjusted my grip It was fine. It seems to be what others have said they had to readjust their grip. Great shooting gun. The trigger is smooth both in DA and SA. In single action there is a large amount of pretravel, the sear and hammer break has very little creep, and is smooth. the reset was not too bad. I had zero failures, handled recoil well. Afterwards I went home and removed mag disconnect and installed the SRT kit. It shortened the reset but still has a large amount of pretravel. Overall once I get use to the grip I wil love it. I have shot other sigs 9mm and 40 with no issues. I own many CZ's and like them more then the sig but that is my opinion, mostly because they are manual safety and I have a natural grip, The triggers have a lot less pretravel, and smooths out after 400-500 rounds. I am hoping i get use to the sig.

I love my 229s but I'm not a fan of Sigs new QC. At least I'm getting great practice on malfunction drills.

Since 9mm is your caliber of choice, I'd suggest a low round count classic P228 instead. They are uber reliable with any ammo you feed them, balance and handling like no other compact handgun and will only continue to go up in value both in the broken California market and nation wide,

Mine jams and has failure to feed about 4 or 5 times every 50 rounds. Fired different ammo like Magtech, Winchester, PMC and Federal. Sent it to Sig twice; second time I sent it, they polished the feed ramp and sent it back to me. Problem still exists. I have 2 H&K 9mm's and both fires all those ammo without a problem. Probably will never buy another Sig again.

I should have stated in the original post, I am looking at possibly buying one. I haven't had any ammo problems. Right now the only 9mm I own is a Kahr CW. I will have to take a look at a used P228 as suggested by Ronin2.

My p229 in .40 has been great, with the .357 sig barrel as well. A 9mm is on my list. I really like the balance of the gun.

Got P229 Stainless elite in 9mm- multiple FTE every 10 or so rounds. Twice back to SIG, same story. It sits in the back of the safe /and looks great!/.

Same exact thing here - I never should have sold it.

edit: I put PMC and Cabelas bulk reloads through that gun for many years.
