    Carry gun recommendation

I'm looking for a carry gun. I shot a Glock 22 last week and did not like the long, mushy trigger pull. I've never liked the double action only or the striker cocking actions. I'm used to my 1911's but for a carry gun I don't want a full sized 45 auto with a 2# trigger.

Basically I would like a handgun that has a double action first shot and single action for the remainder, that is set up ambidextrous or left handed friendly. I'm old school and all my semi-auto pistols are single action with ambidextrous safeties. I'd like to get a medium to medium large handgun in 40 S&W to use on a CCW permit with a 4" barrel with a full size butt.

    Any recommendations?

Compact, Commander 1911 will fit the bill. Stay with something you are familiar with shooting.

Para Ord P14 Stainless, not only is it basically a very nice and accurate 1911, it also looks very powerful and very mean.

If a criminals sees you with a small .38 revolver, they might attack you thinking its something weak and they can win. If they see this they think your a pro.

They make a ton of 1911s with barrels from 4.25" to 3.6" and surely smaller. Any 1911 can have the trigger made lighter/heavier to get it to be 4.5 pounds or whatever you're comfortable with carrying.

Sigs aren't ambidextrous or lefty friendly, but the Heckler & Koch USP and USP Compact are. And since you're used to Single Action pistols with manual safety, the USP and USP Compact can be carried cocked and locked.

My 1911's were never carry guns, they are competition guns, hence the light triggers.

As used to the 1911 as I am I would rather have the long take up of a double action on the first shot as a safety precaution (that extra pause while making that critical decision and in case I have to hold someone at gunpoint with lots of adrenaline running) but I don't want that on every shot after the first one.

I'll have to look at the H&K's

            Thanks

Yup, Sigs have sweet triggers; you may want to rent one and try it to make sure you will like it.

All you need is a tape-recording of a pump shotgun being racked - that'll scare away any criminal.

Or, you can look at the Hk P2000, or a P7M10.

                      My favorite shooter is a .45ACP 1911.

My favorite carrygun is a snubnose .38 special.

I can hit a fly at 50 yards with the 1911 but packing it around concealed is not an option especially when it's 100 degrees outside and all you are wearing is a white tee shirt and cutoffs.

I can barely hit 12 inch plate at 25 yards with my .38 snub but I can carry it all day, sleep with it at night and just about forget it's even there. It blends in nicely with just about anything you wear and barely leaves a print. You don't need a holster with a snub either, just drop it into your pocket.

And sure, you can buy those exotic metal S&W snubs that barely weigh anything and are able to shoot .357 magnums but I'll pass thank you. I've not shot one but I can just imagine what the felt recoil must be like.

Even the felt recoil on my 15oz aluminum and stainless steel S&W snub is painful enough when blazing away with .38 specials.

Of course then there are the sub-compacts in 9mm and .40cal. The Glock 26 and the XD Sub-compact are nice, dependable as hell but still not as easy to carry as a snub. Nothing beats a snub in my book but gawd I would hate to have to use for self-defense. Anyway, my 2 cents worth...
