    100 Years Ago......

In 1916 this C96 Broomhandle left the Mauser factory. Manufactured as a commercial model, it was destined instead to serve with the German army. Because it is a commercial model, it is chambered in 7.63X25 Mauser rather than in the army standard 9mm.

All the numbers match throughout, including the stock. It still retains approximately 95% of it's original finish.

As it would have been carried on the soldiers belt.

The set includes the pistol, wooden shoulder stock/holster, leather holster and the cleaning rod.

    Stock attached to the pistol.

    Leather carrier dated 1916.

I love to see well cared for old firearms.

I'm going to link this thread the next time some cool kid bleats that "it's a tool, who cares if it got scratched" at someone.

This is the result of caring for tools.

Edit, out of curiosity, what's the regimen for hundred year old leather?

Nice gun! Too bad 7.63X25 Mauser ammo is impossible to find. You have to roll your own.

I have never agreed with the philosophy of beating your tools to death. As for the leather, I have no idea of what should, or shouldn't be put on it. It looks as though there hasn't been anything done to it and I am going to keep it that way. It is stored in a cool dry place and I don't leave the straps hooked around their retaining buttons to avoid stretching out the holes.

Actually, ammo is available, but it is a moot point as I have no intention of shooting it. I learned my lesson many years ago when I launched the front sight off of my WWI Remington-UMC 1911. I found it finally, but that cured my desire to shoot highly collectible firearms.

Think of the craftsmanship just to make the wooden holster/stock.
