    FNP-45 FTF

I have a FNP 45 competition and ran four types of ammo through it today. One of them I got FTF 4/50 rounds and the other one 2/50 rounds. Two other ones ran fine. All were FMJ rounds. I cleaned the gun when I got home and it was pretty dirty. This is my first time shooting it and the previous owner was a police officer so I know it's had a few thousand rounds put through it at the very least (I'm guessing 5k). Are there any replacement parts I should get just to be safe. The gun had no problem ejecting the rounds so I think the extractor is fine? I'm also wondering if the really dirty feed ramp was the cause.

Second unrelated question is the front of the slide is starting to blue when I fire it. Should I consider replacing the slide or is this something not to worry about.

I would start with cleaning it as best as you can and lubing/oiling it. Once you've done that, I would try again. Run regular factory FMJ 230 grain ball ammo.

If you still get problems, I would look at the recoil spring and perhaps magazines as potential problems.

I'm not really familiar with FN pistols, only that they're somewhat of a unicorn in these parts.

Yeah I just stripped it and cleaned it. The amount of gunk on the feed ramp was crazy. Maybe the ammo I was using? Not sure. I won't be able to take it out for a few weeks :/

At an estimated 5k rounds you might also look at replacing the recoil spring if it still does it after a good cleaning. Clean the mags too while you're at it just to try and rule those out.

The only time I've been able to create a repeatable malfunction on my FNX 45 (I know, not the exact same gun) was when I ran some hand loads that were under powered. The same loads ran my Ruger SR1911 just fine and the guns were both brand new. I would say with factory ammo that gun should be cycling correctly.

That blueish gray color on the slide happens on my FNX when I fire it. My guess is it has something to do with the fact that the slide is stainless with a coating. The heat transfer must cause some weird temporary discoloration.

ahh, okay makes sense on the blue color regarding the slide. Mags worked for other brands just fine but I will clean them out and see what happens. I'll check out replacing the recoil spring too. I honestly don't know how much he's put through it, but based on the wear it's in the 2500-5000 range. I'll replace it just incase.

I use to own a FNP-45, the slides on them are big and heavy. I found the hotter the round the better the gun ran. Soft shooting lite practice loads would cause problems, full power defense rounds ran 100%.
I also recall post's in the FM forums, were people would use a lighter recoil spring to run under powered training rounds.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

My only handgun right now is an fnp 9mm, I bought it as a ppt and it looked almost brand new the previous owner said he only put 50 rounds threw it. So far so good but I've only put 150 or 175 rounds threw it so far. I'm going to put another 150 threw it tomorrow on the 1st of the year
