    Subcompact/compact spec comparison

So I've been on the hunt for a new subcompact in 9mm. I was having trouble keeping up with all the specs and what not, so I put together this spreadsheet. For each column, the green cells represent smallest, and as it progresses larger, the color turns from yellow to red.

The only trouble I am having is that Kahr states slide width, and Springfield states grip width so I don't know if you can truly compare these. If anyone can tell me the width at the widest point, I can update.

Also, I'll keep adding to this. Let me know if there are any you want to see.

Hope this helps someone other than me!

I think the reason you are finding issues is due to all the protrusions on the guns. The slidestop on both guns are the widest part. If you leave those out of the conversation. Then the XD's grip is wider than it's slide at 1.2". The Kahr CM9 and CW9 are the same, and are .924" for grip width

Looking at your spreadsheet, I can see a few errors. The Kahrs weights don't include mags. Some of the others on the list do. The CM9/PM9 mag weighs 1.6 ozs unloaded, the CW9 is 1.9 ozs

Although I don't own an M&P anymore, I don't recall it being as small as the specs on your list, it's closer to a Glock 26/27. I'm thinking you have the specs for a S&W Shield in there instead.

Thank you Oldmandan. May I ask where you were able to get the info on the widths and the weights, I just looked at the manufacturer websites and put the info that they had. I do need to look at that info a little more closely though.

I pulled my CCW and measured it with a caliper I happened to have at my desk. My XD was only 2' away, so I checked it also.

I checked the weights of the mags on a scale.

I went through the same process you are going through awhile back. Using manufacturers websites turned out to be somewhat subjective, as they all measure from different locations and most don't indicate if the mag is included in the weight... makes it tough

I have back issues, and I am fairly skinny. Finding a small lightweight gun is difficult in CA. Your spreadsheet should help others with similar issues.

There's a guy named "LOS" on defensivecarry.com that compiles sizes and posts them in a vs type format. I have found his specs to be accurate enough. They are somewhat subjective also, for example, if you look at his specs for the CW9 he measures at the slide also instead of the grip.

To find his pics do a google image search like "CW9 vs shield" or "CW380 vs LCP", his pics were invaluable in helping me make my SSE selections.

Thank you very much for the information. I will look up his posts on the other site, and try to update the spreadsheet with correct info. Or perhaps not. After doing more searches, information is not consistent from one place to another.

I'm a small guy, 5'5", with a medium build. I don't wear baggy clothes and wear tucked in dress shirts during most weekdays. I really like my Firestorm 380, but I haven't found a deep carry tuckable IWB holster for it. I've tried my friends AlienGear and like the way it fits, but they don't make one for the Firestorm and said that the Thunder won't fit due to the trigger guard. From what it looks like, the Kahr PM and MP seem to be about the smallest with the M&P Shield coming in pretty close. Hopefully I can find a gun shop with a few of these so that I can see how they feel.
