No Shell Casing in Ruger Box

I recently purchased DROS'd a new Ruger and upon inspection noticed there was no Shell Casing Envelope in the box.

I asked the clerk and she stated that they throw them away.

I did'nt question it at the time, but decided to check with Ruger.

The Ruger Website States.

"we have decided to include a fired cartridge case with all new Ruger pistols and revolvers to minimize the possibility of inadvertent non-compliance with these laws. Retail customers located in states that do not require a fired cartridge case may be assured that the fired cartridge case they receive with the firearm at the time of retail purchase is proof that your new Ruger firearm has undergone our normal test firing procedures during manufacture. "


I am due to pick it up in a few days and was wondering if I should make
an issue of it and not accept it due to this fact.

Do you think they will allow me to cancel the DROS and sale based on this?

Strange practice. Other than a non-certified CA locking device, why would the dealer throw anything out?

You may have to pay for the DROS and a re-stocking fee but you should be able to cancel the sale. Don't know for sure though.

Cancel the non refundable DROS for a missing casing?! That's for States that require them to be included with the gun. CA does not.
BTW, all gun manufactures test fire their guns at the plant.

I wouldn't make a big deal out of it, you'll get your money back except for the DROS and a restocking fee. I agree it sucks. I 'd much rather have it than not, even though it just sits in the box. It's comfort food knowing it's there. I can't think of any reason why they would toss it but unless you are having second thoughts about buying the gun (welcome to guns) just let it go.

Perhaps I am just over reacting.. It just bothers me when stuff that is supposed to be in the box is not.

I had a similar experiance where the manual and other documentation was gone as well. I was able to get those directly from the manufacture.

Anyone else, not get what they had coming to them?

What's the purpose of the 'law' that requires a fired case to be included with the firearm? What states require this? I had never heard of a law that required fired cases, until this thread and just assumed it proved the gun was test fired. I've purchased several new handguns and the only one that included fired cases was a Glock. Nothing was included with Beretta, S&W, or H&K. Anyone who can shed some light on the topic?

When I bought my first Glock, it does have an envelope which contains fired casings but the entire opposite with my Sig. At first, my thinking was my gun got switched somehow with a used one but come to think of it why would they jeopardize their license for such a deal.

Don't worry about it...I put down 200 rounds on my Sig and it was a blast!

For less than the $25 you won't get back from the DROS (let alone restocking) I can make you a brand new fired casing.

I just recently purchased an H&K P2000 and it came with a fired case. It just sits in the box, hidden under the foam stuff, doing absolutely nothing. OP, I wouldn't worry about it.
