If i wanted to buy a g34, why cant it be a gen4 and how would the doj know it was? The roster says g34 and says nothing about which gen it has to be.

Because its not approved for sale from a dealer in california unless exempt. Doing so would be illegal for the dealer.

ok thanks, not like i really care i was just wondering. Gen 3 fits my hand better anyway, even without the changeable grips.

Funny how the gun itself meets all the requirements under the law, yet still requires approval. So much for the law not being subject to interpretation.

I like the grip of Gen 4s better. A great improvement.

It does not meet all the current requirements:
                    No Mag Disconnect
                    No Microstamping
I don't think the LCI meets CA standards either.

Which law did you think it met the requirements for?

                      Lacks microstamping.
                      Lack the mag disconnect.
Lacks the current definition of "prominent" chamber loaded indicator.

Yes, it is functionally identical to any Gen 3.

Sorry, spaced my mind. I forgot about the disconnect and the micro-stamping. Too be honest, I remember hearing something about the micro stamping awhile back, but completely unaware of the mag disconnect.

Apart from the grips, there's no difference from Gen 3, right?

                          I'm happy with Gen 3...

2007 it became a requirement to have both the LCI and mag disconnect.
The Gen3's were on the roster at that time so it did not need to be added.
                            Now, microstamping is required.

Gen 4 has dual recoil spring assembly, some say also a tad bit tighter overall for increased accuracy. All Gen 4s are basically SF short frames, with a shorter reach to the trigger unless you add the backstraps. The trigger bars are different, and Gen 4 comes with a 'dot' trigger connector.

For people with small to medium sized hands, the improved grip on the smaller frame can really improve their shooting.
