Retention Holster: G-Code vs KT

I need a holster with active retention and both G-Code and KT makes them for my gun. I'm wondering if anyone has hands-on experience with the Duty Akela or XST holsters.

The KT disengages the hood by having the thumb push inward, whereas the XST has the thumb press down. I'm thinking the downward motion is more natural when you grab the gun. Thoughts?

ALS has you sweeping it to the rear, right?

I initially left that off because I want the hood. Read some reviews about the ALS nub inside the gun can be worn down by botched draws. That and the release looks small and I don't exactly want to go fishing for it. I have a Hogue retention holster for my Sig and I really appreciated the big release it has. The problem with that is that it some times sticks and the stalk that pushes down can flex.

Safariland make the best retention holsters. I dont see how anyone could botch a draw so bad that the als gets damaged but its most likely they didnt use the holster properly. The release tab is located where your thumb would normally be after dropping the hood so there is no searching for the tab.

With your thumb push the hood release tab down then forward. Then push the als tab backwards 1/4" and draw the gun.

I played with an ALS holster and it was surprisingly intuitive.

How does it react to dirt and crud? Can the mechanism be jammed? My thought with the hood of the Gcode is that if the hood doesn't spring out of the way, you can still manually push it down. But since ALS is inside the holster, you're kind of stuck.

My local 2 gun matches have us low crawl thru sand and dirt all the time. I've seen a guy with level 1 retention holster loose his Glock, and I've seen Serpa malf. I have no desire to experience either.

i have the g-code XST for my HK, not bad, easy to manipulate, no surprises. with enough draw practice it was second nature.
