A bit confused.... HK P7 info needed.

Can some please explain to me different variations of P7 pistols.

PSP, P7, P7M8, NDS police returns etc. Whats the starting price for a nice P7 these days?

    Thank You .

Good luck finding one in Cali at a decent price. They havent been produced since 2005 so finding one in the state is tough and requires a face to face purchase only. I have been looking for a heel release civilian model for months.
Your least expensive will be the police trade in. You can tell it because it will have NDS in a circle stamped on the slide and have the heel release. These will be between 1000-1500 in Cali. Then there is the P7 civilian model, also known as the PSP. There are 2 variants of this model. The early versions actually had PSP stamped on the slide and are rare even outside of Cali and can bring a heafty premium. The standard civilian model P7 will be a few hundred more than the police trade in.
After these models comes the P7 "M" series which incorporated a trigger finger heat shield and mag release up near the trigger guard. Brings 1800+. The 4th and final variants were the double stack mag variants like the P7M13. $2500+.
There were also many low production runs as collectors items like the Jubilee series and the last 500 series which bring an additional collector value

Thank You for the info. Looking at 1983 civilian P7 EUROPEAN magazine release ,3 magazines, cleaning tools, NO BOX or manual. The guns condition is about 98% + , had about 2 boxes of ammo through it. 100% factory original with no modifications. What would be a fair market price ( WITHOUT CALIFIRNIA FACTOR and seller is not desperate ). Thanks.

Specifically which model P7? Look at sold guns on gunbroker... All those sales are free market.

I don't think you can exclude the California factor and honestly still have a fair market value if you are buying the gun in state.

1983 P7 without heat shield, no police markings, 98%+++, no box, bottom mag release, total of 3 factory magazines, cleaning tools.

I am roster exempt , thats why I am not concerned with Ca factor. GB prices are all over the place and I am not familiar with all the variations of P7M8.

There's the P7, which early ones had an exposed heel mag release, then the later ones had a flush protected heel mag release. Then you have the m8 which has a larger trigger guard, a heat shield, ambi lever mag release behind the trigger guard, and a raised firing pin bushing to aid removal. Then the m13 which is same as m8 except double stack 13 rds. Then you have m10 which is .40 cal. The healers are often erroneously referred to as psp's, but technically the psp was the very first heeler model of which there are very few. One odd ball is the 1997 (kh) date code p7 which has a flush heel mag release and actually has psp on it. Only about 150 of those made it into the USA.

Almost all the German police trade ins will be p7 flush heel release pistols. P7 and p7m8 mags are different.

Even being roster exempt, you may have trouble finding someone willing to ship to Ca. Good luck. I would expect to pay 1200ish for a police trade in p7, 15-18 for a commercial p7, and 18 and up for an m8, all assuming excellent condition with accessories. Add the Ca vig on top of those for in state ppt.

The thing with P7's is that those who know have known for a long time. Most that are into them have more than one, especially after HK ceased production. Supply has dwindled after the last batch of used p7 imports, and people hold onto them and carry and shoot them.

Good luck with your search. To me, it is the ultimate carry handgun for self defense. It is NOT a range hose. It gets hot and dirty pretty quick. It is incredibly safe, exquisitely made, and laser accurate.

Good luck in your search sir.

                  Don't forget the NJSP trade-in P7M8s.

They were available through Century Arms for a short while. They have the standard LE trade-in wear...more holster than anything else

We really shouldn't forget the P7K3 which was available in .22lr, .32, and .380 as a set.

The really rare one is the P7M7 which was chambered in .45ACP...I think there is one in this country

Your right! I forgot about the New Jersey State police trade ins. I have no measure of their market value as I can't remember seeing any being sold on the secondary, ca or otherwise. I know the us parks police also carried m8's and m13's for some time, and word is they were offered for individual purchase to officers after retirement or during transition to the p2k, which is why you don't see any USPP stamped ones around for sale.

I didn't mention the p7k3 since it is pretty much a collectors item at this point, but for the OP, it came in .22, .32, and .380, and the calibers could be swapped around. It uses a hydraulic buffer system in lieu of the standard p7 gas retarded blowback system. The hydraulic buffers go bad and are no longer available from HK, but there are some cottage industry guys making small custom runs of them in their shops for the guys that still shoot their k3's regularly.

Anyway, thanks for chatting about my all time favorite handgun. Good luck in your pursuit of one sir.

The P7 and P7M8 are the same, except the P7M8 has a heat shield above the trigger guard. If you shoot about 3 mags in quick succession it can get pretty toasty, and the heat shield was to help mitigate that.
Owned several M8's and M13's over the years and still do. The so called "heat shield" does nothing after 3 mags worth. It gets VERY hot due to the blow back design just above your trigger finger. And you will feel it with any sustained shooting. That's the only issue with this incredible pistol. I'd carry this pistol day and night as I think it's the one pistol out of all the others ever made you can 100% rely on.

I have no idea either...I paid < $700 for mine and kick myself for not getting one at the LE price of $358 when they were pushing LE sales

I did carry my original P7 (heel release) as a duty weapon for a while and never had an issue with it.

When it gets so dirty that you can hardly rack the slide, it will still function. It even continues to eject spent cases with a broken extractor. The magazines, while a little spendy, are unbelievably rugged
