    Thank you in advance.
So long as you keep the weapon in a legal configuration, you're not going to run afoul of any federal laws. That's pretty easy with a 1911 build.

California is a different story. You cannot lawfully build a pistol that strictly complies with Browning design. You have two options that come close:

    1) You can build a pistol close to the Browning design, but with the addition of a magazine disconnect, loaded chamber indicator and microstamping. Then you have to submit it to a DOJ-certified lab for testing. or

    2) You can build a single-shot pistol on a 1911 frame that meets the dimensional requirements of Penal Code section 32100(b) and where the slide has been replaced with something that functions as a "Bolt-Action" or "Break-Top", also in compliance with section 32100(b).

The real problem with doing your own build of a handgun is that you have to comply with the "Safe Handgun" provisions of Penal Code section 32000. That section was carefully written to apply to "any person" who manufacturers a handgun. A lot of folks would like to think that it only applies to commercial manufacturers, but such is not the case.

We've hashed this out in quite a few previous threads. The "search" feature should provide you with a lot of info.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I read a lot about the popular 80% AR receiver, but never know what's the application on 80% 1911 or any other pistol frames.

So, 80% pistol frame is a whole different story from 80% AR rifle in CA then.

No wonder I don't see people building their 1911 from 80% frame. :-)

You've got a lot of flexibility to lawfully make your own AR rifle (or any long gun) so long as your build is in a legal configuration. That's pretty easily done. I'd recommend closely reading the Calguns flowcharts and checking out the AW statutes to make sure that you don't run afoul.

There have been recent legislative attempts to curtail folks' ability to build long guns, but nothing has passed to accomplish that. Keep an eye on the legislative front. Those efforts are gonna continue.

But for building your own handgun, PC 32000 is a pretty difficult obstacle to overcome.

Thank you again for further informations.

I have no desire to build from any 80% receivers, just curious about the difference between rifle and pistol, and I know here is the best place to ask.

          Thank you and Merry Christmas.
