Taurus 1911 again

I got the lastest edition of American Rifleman and imagine my surprise to see another review of the "new" Taurus 1911. I have seen a lot of guns hyped a long time before ever hitting the shelves, but this is ridiculous. What has it been 2+ years that we have been hearing about that thing? The list price is $600, they would sell a lot of them on that alone, why hype it so much?

Two years ago at the SHOT Show, there was a prototype of the Taurus 1911. Based on the comments they got, it was back to the drawing board. It was the blockiest 1911 I've ever had in my hand. The finishing was awful. The main comment I heard was......"Why would they put that out on display?"

If and when it does come out, I'm not so sure it will be a big seller.

Weren't these available to shooting ranges a while back under a promotional renting program that gun companies usually have? I recall trying out a 1911 one day at the gun room in sacramento and the RO showed me a 1911 by taurus to try out (but I'm not 100% if this is the one you speak of). Boy, that thing was crap. FTF (fire and feed), failure to eject, even after a cleaning it would still crap out. The RO ended up letting me switch to a Glock 21 for kicks.

the fact that they are not rushing this out, but taking their time and doing revisions and getting feedback... It should be a nice final product imo...
I wonder if they are using Springer tooling or the 'Brazil connection'

I'd personally spend a little bit more and get the S&W 1911.

For that price you can usually find a SA Loaded used or on sale.

I think S&W has some of the best 1911s out there in the non-racegun category.

If you want a 100% reliable, accurate 1911 with a good trigger that runs right outta the box, the S&W guns can't be beat. They don't need any tweaking.

Sure, you do pay a bit extra over an approximately-comparable Springfield - but I've never heard of an S&W 1911 having problems. And, unlike Springfields, you don't have to throw away the magazines and get new ones.

My next 1911 is gonna be the Commander-sized S&W 1911Sc.

I think S&W is gonna give the other 1911 makers a run for their money, Ive only shot one, the scandium model with tac rail. Fit and finish of the gun was excellent, accuracy was less than my springer mil-spec but the beauty of the 1911 is that it can be tweaked a little for accuracy. I'm personally waiting to see a scandium officers model S&W 1911, i would be really interested in getting my hands on one. As far as my Springfield goes they make a nice 1911 at a good price,and i have yet too throw away any magazines or have FTF,FTE problems. Even if it did its a 1911 it can be fixed cheap and easy.
