XD45 Tactical Trigger Compared to G21 & Others

How do you guys like your XD45's? And is the tactical version much milder in recoil than the regular fullsize XD45? And last but not least, how is the trigger compared to the G21, M&P45 and USP? Is it lighter or smoother, etc? I'm ready to pull the trigger on a polymer .45 that's reasonably priced and these are my top choices. Thanks.

I love my XD 45 tactical, the trigger is not my favorite. a trigger job may be in best interest. i am too much of a tight wad and am proficient as is.

IMHO id go with the tactical over the service

recoil is fine, if you want im sure you could port it. im sure its the same as a
g21 or any other polymer gun.

shoot them all and see wich one you like more, all great choices.

I would personally pass on the XD, the good buy right now for polymer .45s is either the M&P45 or the Glock 21SF. The trigger on the XD is decent but the reset is really slow, you can't really tinker with your pull weight like you can with a Glock using factory parts. What concerns me the most is that the XDs have been known to be problematic, but springfield refuses to sell spares so if it goes down, its a guaranteed 1 month+ trip back to the factory.

Thats alot of hate on the xd. i love it i have the 4" service never had a problem nor does the majority on xdtalk.com. i prefer the grip safety plenty of dept. still use 1911 as well as xd's so thats not a prob. and now some of the parts are being issued without having to send your gun in. springfield has awesome customer service.

I Don't like glocks just based on grip angle but m&p is nice don't know much about it. shoot all 3 and go with what you like. if you like the xd im telling you won't have any regrets!!!

For my xd I would prefer a shorter reset something similiar to my Gold Cup mod 70 but I doubt they can get it that tight.

I love my XD45 tac. It just fits my hand really well. The trigger isn't too bad for me and plus it has been said once you get some rounds through it, it really smooths out. Plus the XDs were made for military service so you know they will hold up. Oh and don't forget the great customer service from SA and lifetime warranty.

If you decide on an XD, I'd consider the trigger kit from Springer Precision a minimum. The reduced trigger pull and shortened reset are well worth it. It's not that difficult to do yourself and if you have problems Scott will help you via telephone. If you can afford it, send it to either Springer Precision or Canyon Creek for a trigger job. Scott's turn around time is pretty quick.

+1 on the slow reset but I have disagree with the XD being know as problematic. At the risk of coming off like a fanboy, I offer this... I have three XD's and even had an XD45 tactical. I put thousands of rounds through it from WWB to +P, including some very questionable reloads. I never had a single failure of any kind nor did I have any problems with it's inner workings. Dead reliable pistol IMHO, I would bet my life on it. That's how confident I am of it. My XD9 on the other hand, shoots well, but it can be a bit finnicky with the ammo and a little more sensitive to limp wristing. But with my XD40SC and XD45, I couldn't get them to jam unless I grabbed the slide and held it from cycling...

The triggers on the XD's are a bit less than desirable. The reset is miles apart from the glock, but I think the actual pull and the grip angle more than make up for it. I have seen some trigger kits but I am extremely hesitant to change anything from stock on any of my pistols.

Powder precision makes a pretty decent tune-able kit as well for overtravel which will help as well. I personally bought this kit for 50 bucks and couldnt be happier. As far as reliability, I have had ZERO issues with mine.

Even after SA did the carry trigger job on my XD 45 Service, I still like the Glock's trigger better. I rented the XD45 at the range before buying it and I would suggest that you do the same.

The stock trigger pull on both my G21sf and XD 45 Tactical were atrocious. Then again, I am something of a trigger snob.

Sent the XD to Canyon Creek for the 2# trigger job. Not cheap, but VERY satisfied. Trigger pull is light and crisp, and trigger travel is limited by a set screw on the trigger bar, I believe. Nice work, overall. The gun is a veritable tackdriver and is as reliable as a hammer. Also, it's damn slim for a double stack .45, especially compared to the Glock.

My G21sf has a drop-in trigger kit from www.triggerkit.com. Even with the upgrade, the pull is heavier than I'd like (especially compared to the trigger kit in my G17 from the same site), but still crisp. I find myself not reaching for it as often because of the wider grip. Nevertheless, it, too, is very accurate and reliable. I believe I hit the 100 yd. 8" circle at Angeles seven times in a row with this pistol.

I replaced both sets of OEM sights with Heinie's, too. Changing the Glock's sights was a breeze, changing the sights on the XD required the Hammer of Thor.

I'm sorely tempted to buy an M&P 45 to complete the trifecta, but .45 is expensive (even for reloaders!), and I've already got a Baer, a TRP Op, and a 220ST to feed....

If you're in SoCal, join us up at ASR one of these days, and I'll bring out the Glock and XD for you to try. Again, they're both great pistols, but I'd give the edge to the XD for ergos in .45. (If you were looking at 9mm's, I'd recommend Glocks over everything. )
