My G17 is picky about ammo

Took my unfired Glock 17 out last night to break it in, and it literally would NOT cycle reliably with fiocchi 115grn ball ammo. Loads felt incredibly light, and about 2/3 of the time (yes, 65%+), it would short cycle, and either close on an empty chamber or fail to go into battery with a fresh round. I was very surprised to say the least. Chalked it up to the fiocchi being underpowered.

I pulled out some 115 grn Winchester white box and it was 100% for me. Loads felt like normal 9mm. Noticed the short cycling happened for my wife when she shot it. However, I'll chalk that up to her limp-wristing a little bit.

Anybody else notice this on their 9mm Glocks until the spring wears in a bit? Or should I just chalk it up to Fiocchi?

I say keep shooting/trying other ammo manufacturer's. Have not had any experience with Fiocchi ammo but when I first got my Gen3 G17 the first 100 rounds were 115grn WWB and then 100 rounds of 147grn WWB. Then finished up with 50 rounds of 124grn Hyrda Shok (my HD ammo). Since then its eaten up thousands of rounds of 115grn and 124grn reloads, Tula, WWB, ...etc. But still no Fiocchi.

Hmmmm... I should get a box and see for myself.

I have to jump in here because I'm having almost exactly the same problem, it's the ammo. I bought ~1.5k Fiocchi 9mm 115gr a few months ago, I used to always use Fiocchi with no problems. But the latest batch just feels severely underpowered, with even less recoil feel than normal 9mm.

It causes FTE almost 100% of the time on my Sigs, Shield, rented Glock, etc. The only gun that doesn't FTE for some reason is my wife's fully CGW'd CZ 75B and my Sig P229

Winchester white box functioned 100% in all those guns. It's def the Fiocchi ammo, not the guns.

How old is the gun? There was a while there where Glock was replacing recoil springs for free because of this problem. I can't remember which guns were affected, but the recall notice was on their site back when it was really common.

My G34 did some of that for the first couple hundred rounds or so.
I've used more Fiocchi 115 than anything else.

Thanks, I suspected it was this. You should call Fiocchi and see if they'll do something to help you out. I was lucky enough to only get one box.

My G17 3rd gen will cycle light loads.

              I haven't tried Fiocchi though.

I need WWB and Perfecta to cycle the massive bolt in my full size Vector UZI pistol. Light loads are no-go.

I did just but a Stainless guide rod (because I don't like the plastic one and have had good luck with a tungsten on my G34). I just picked it up last week, I'd have to imagine it's a 2015 production.

Did your issues happen with OEM RSA, or with aftermarket SS?

Eh, I figure with the lower recoil and since it cycles the wife's CZ ok, might as well let her use it since she likes the less kick.

It's strange because I have a few boxes of Walmart Perfecta (should be identical to Fiocchi) that don't have this problem.

It's most likely not the recoil spring, then. I think that only affected guns about five years ago if memory serves me correctly.

Really weird that Fiocchi ammo won't cycle reliably - that has always been a "top shelf" ammo in my book. It's generally a bit hotter than the white-box stuff. Hopefully Fiocchi isn't losing their QA control standards.

I think Fiocchi released a bad run of ammo.

I had the same issue on a vp9 that will eat anything else. No one is 100% of the time

OEM. SS should be here this week.

Nothing wrong with your gun. Fiocchi is just garbage.

                              Yup try different ammo.
