    S&W 329pd on roster?

I looked at the roster and they say its legal, and include a skew number which has an "A" suffix. They go on to state s&w stamps an A or B under the top strap.

No sellers indicate if its an A or B skew. Are they all A's? Anyone figure this out? Anyone (who bought it legally in CA) want to sell one?. Its as if we Ned to hire a lawyer in order to procure firearms here.

    S&W model 329PD(palm destroyer) in 44mag
    Roster id: 329PD SKU 163414A

The 329pd is California Approved. Check Riflegear.com. I just got a 340pd from them.
    Good luck.

OK, the bigger question is if I'd be allowed to buy one out of state. It appears that's impractical on account t of the secret A/B stamp which isn't advertised in listings. CA appears to require an A stamped under the top strap. I guess that's just to further oppress people who don't vote correctly?

Thanks for the replies. At this point I might just drag around my gigantic super Redhawk.

Yes, they are legal. Any dealer should be able to get one.

Further research indicates the 329pd N frame is cracking. There's a new model 69 in production based on the L frame which is stainless, five-shot, and +10oz. Is this the best backpacker gun? What's the deal with the sleeved barrel?

This is probably a new thread, but I'm still looking for an ultralight backpacker in 44mag,

Where did you see that the 329pd's are cracking? I was just about to order one from my LGS.

There have been reports of flame cutting on the top strap in early 329PDs. At some point, S&W added a little steel flange to cover the top strap between the forcing cone and the cylinder.

The reports, from my understanding, were mainly from masochists owners who shot a lot of magnum loads through their early 329PDs.

For a while, I was shooting a lot of .44 Specials through mine and some magnums occasionally. I've had no problems with mine and I haven't heard complaints about flame cutting in quite a while.

These are obviously meant to be carried a lot and shot little, though S&W did make good on the broken ones.

The steel flange seems to be a common fix. I've got them on my 340PD and 327 TRR8. I didn't really know what they were there for until now, assuming we're talking about the same thing. I plan to practice with .44 specials and only use .44 magnums when needed.

From a part time salesman at my local shop. He said he saw seven broken 329pd frames with his own eyes. So we can take that for what its worth... Hard to say. He also turned me on to the cheaper model 69, which they also didn't have in stock.

Sounds like the 329pd is still good to go? I don't want to slap traffic full time with magnum loads. 44specials at the range will do just fine.

Any comments on the new model 69? Five shot, L frame, stainless and plus 10oz compared to the 329pd.

329 is good to go. Don't hesitate if you want a four inch N-Frame in a lightweight package.

No input on the 69, though it sure looks sweet!
