Picked up my new sig P238 went out in the pouring snow shot it a few times then came home and was looking it over. I noticed when there is a round in the chamber you can see the base of it on the side. Is that normal

Yes of course I cleared it. I came home and was loading it up to keep in my safe and when I went to set it it there.(1 in the chamber 7 in the mag) hammer down. I noticed that I could see shiny brass thru the side of the slide. it caught my eye and I am just curious if this is normal.

Yes - that is the inspection port. And most good defense ammo will have polished nickel plated brass cases, one of the reasons is so it is more evident when looking through the inspection port - the other reason is it doesn't tarnish and feeds smoother.
