Converting to 10mm

Has anyone converted a g21 or g30 to 10mm? If so, what barrel did you choose of which gun and how is the reliability? Is it a range toy or do you bet your life on it?

I ask because I am interested in doing this to one of these two pistols. Looking for some feedback and experiences before diving into another caliber.

The best way to go is get a complete Glock 10mm slide for your .45 Glock.

The .45 slide is lighter than the 10mm in even with a heavier recoil spring will cause more wear.

I looked into it, but 10mm ammo is just too expensive to justify.

I can't help you with the conversion, I just bought a whole new gun when I decided to graduate to the 10mm. What I can say is, 10mm is either a love it or hate it round. Many love it for the power it provides. Others hate it because they just can't handle the recoil. One of the best things is the ability to shoot .40 s&w out of it for cheap target practice, then put some full power loads in it for defensive/hunting use. Mine was purchased for hunting but quickly turned into my usual carry gun.

affordability aside, the only true way to get the power of 10mm is to reload for it.

I considered going the other route. I have a G20 and considered buying the G21 slide but at over $300 for a complete used slide vs $500 for a used G21 I'll just buy a complete gun, that way I can have a G21SF and have both frames as well.

To answer your question about barrels my G20 came with a lone wolf barrel which I use for it. It has a fully supported chamber to keep the costly brass I good shape for reloading. I've got over 250 rounds (I admit it's not a lot) out of it with zero failures. With a bit more if have no issue trusting it for carry.

I also put a complete G20 slide on my G21SF. I also did the same for my G29SF by buying a complete G30 upper. The lowers are identical for the G20/G21. The G29/G30 lowers are identical. Adding the proper upper is just more reliable overall if your intent is a self defense weapon.

By using the proper upper you negate any chance of the slide not moving at the proper speed for reliability purposes because as already stated the G20 slide has slightly more mass to it to control the slide movement. Many people have just used conversion barrels with good success but then you hear about those who have had problems. My G29 is my backwoods protection in areas where smaller black bears live and I top it off with the G30 sometimes as a HD pistol. No room for error in either of these situations.

My other purpose for doing this with my G29SF is it is now one of my bug out guns in that I purchased conversion barrels in 10mm to .40S&W, a 10mm to .357 Sig. Add the G30 slide for .45ACP and the one firearm will shoot all the above ammo which I have all. Just have to use the one firearm in a pinch. The other bug out gun is a G23 with .357 Sig and 9mm conversion barrels. 2 platforms and can use many semi-auto ammo.

I did a Glock 20 sf longslide conversion from Lonewolf and with a 22 lb spring it is by far one of the best firearms I have ever shot. Reloading for 10mm Is a must. I dont but all I shoot is Underwood buy it in 500rd cases. Other thing I can say is I bought my Longslide for $169 and barrel for $79 I think when Lonewolf had a huge sale while back. just to give you the cheapest I have ever seen in those components.

I first just used a G20 stock barrel in a G21 slide and a G20 magazine. It worked good enough for just plinking, but I wouldn't use it for self defense. I later bought a G20 slide.

For my 21sf, Ive got a stock 20 slide, kkm match 45 barrel, and a LW 9mm conversion barrel.

Thinking about barrels for 40, 6" 10mm, and 9x25... a non-sf frame might be nice to have as well.

factory glock 29 10mm barrel and mags is all you need to convert the g30 to shoot 10mm. a stronger recoil spring of 20+lbs is highly recommended. i run a 21lb spring on my glock 30/10mm conversion but only when shooting hot ammo. the factory 17lb spring is ok if you are shooting low power 10mm ammo or .40 out of it ( yes it will shoot .40). i got my factory g29 barrel from ebay for 80 bucks brand new. some say you need a 10mm extractor as well but i have had no need, some just get lucky.
