Every time I read something new on this thread, it makes me want to get one of the those ugly ducklings for my collection.

Do it. I picked one up for a decent price. I enjoy shooting mine for sure. im surprised how they get a bad rap on here for being ugly but most of my non gun enthusiast friends don't really comment about the looks....until I pull out the 1911 of course.
I see your swartz is as big as mine, now let's see how well you handle it

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

But they are, in fact (not opinion), really really ugly. I'm ok with that though, they weren't designed to be pretty, they were designed to be the most reliable gun for the cheapest price, and they succeeded pretty well on both counts. The lifetime, transferable, no questions asked warranty is really unbelievable, hardly any companies do that for any product. For a handgun, that kind of customer service is out of this world. You could shoot 10,000 flawless rounds, then get 1 FTF one day, and they'll happily take a look at it for free, clean it for free, and repair it for free if needed, even if you tell them the repair is needed because you were using it as a bottle opener. I'll probably end up buying one or five some day, obviously they won't be display pieces, but I'll happily keep them in my hot trunk on a summer day, one in each of my hiking backpacks, maybe a few for opening beer bottles by the fridge, etc

Hey, people who are sending them in to Hi-Point:

They used to tell people to send the guns via priority mail, which is a criminal offense. Are they still doing that?

How are you shipping your guns for repair?

I picked up a used Hi Point .380 for $75 a couple years ago. I don't take it to the range very often, but once in a while I will see it in the safe and throw it in my bag. I estimate that I've put 300-400 rounds through it and have never had a FTF. I've tried to hate it but just can't. It's heavy as he!! And butt ***** ugly, but it works.

I think they have to be sent via next-day "air" service with UPS/FedEx, no? (whether or not the pistol actually goes on a plane should be irrelevant, as it might not leave the ground if the shipper and receiver are in close proximity, despite paying for "air" service)

Technically that is the compliant way to do it, or have an FFL ship them. But in the case of a Hi-Point, the cost of shipping starts to approach the value of the gun.

From what I understand, if you field-strip it and call it "machine parts" rather than a firearm, the costs drops dramatically for next-day air service. Not that I'm condoning lying.... just saying. They're not legally allowed to label it as a "firearm" anyways, they're just looking for excuses to charge you more.

Like nike says, just do it.

Toss it in your toolbox or tackle box. That's what I did.

                            Good pistol for the money.

I don't care for the take down pin. These are difficult to take down for purposes of cleaning.

I don't care for the safety, as it does not positively lock in position.

But for the price, I had to try it, and it works extremely reliably. Accurate enough.
