    44 Magnum Ammo

Any where to get any decent deals on about 250 rounds? I just got a S&W 629 Classic and am a bit confused on 44 rem mag vs 44 mag vs 44 special. Can I use any of these?

The 44 rem mag and the 44 mag are the same thing. The 44 special is the same case but shorter. All will work in your 629. If you are a beginning big bore shooter you'd do well to start with the 44 spec. for a few hundred rounds and then move to the mag loads.

Wally Word is your friend for plinking and target ammo. Oh yeah you might want to think about reloading it will save you a bit.

Thanks guys, I was at walmart the other day and saw the 44 rem mag ammo. Didn't see the price but I'm sure by default they are amongst the cheapest for plinking ammo. Is 240G the standard?

yup 240 grain is a standard loading. If you plan on shooting a lot you would be better off if you start rolling your own. .44 specials will work in the gun and don't have near the kick of full magnum ammo. great for target practice to get used to the gun.

Cheaper Than Dirt! is America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter, and we live up to that title. Expect bulk ammo deals, discounts, gun care accessories and more

I suppose you could use cheaperthandirt.com to get an idea of whether any prices you find are good or not.

.44 mag from wally world is loaded pretty hot. Lots of recoil and muzzle blast. Generally not fun for plinking.

I buy reloads from Load-X with Lead Round Nose for about 17.00 for plinking.

                Here is their price list:

If you do not want the brass or care about the muzzle flash, Blazer .44 is one the cheapest factory rounds available.

Huh? That's the DEFINITION of "fun for plinking!"

Not unless the guy next to you is shooting a 454, 50, 460 or 500.

For the thread. Why don't you start reloading? In the long run you'll have more bang for the buck.

Thanks for the advice guys, I could definitely use a reloading set up. I have plenty of rifle calibers that I'd like to start reloading. Just have to learn to trust myself.

Those factory reloads sound good, I'll also pick up a box from Walmart just to try them out. Although I'm new to the 44mag I've been shooting all sorts of firearms since I was 12.

Just remember, the three most important things about reloading are, 1) safety, 2.) safety, and 3.) safety.
