Problem with my Ruger MkII

Extraction issue. It always pulls the empty out of the chamber, but very frequently, and more so when dirty or with non-super-high-velocity ammo, the empty get stuck. The rim will end up behind the new round, which will chamber only to the base of the bullet, and the neck of the old round will be poking out sideways from the ejection port. It's actually been doing this for years, since I got it, but its finally irritated me enough to do something about it.

What would be my solution? I'm guessing something to do with the extractor...likely a spring and extractor replacement?

My Mark III has been doing the same thing since I got it. I have heard great reviews on the Volquartsen extractor, supposed to almost eliminate the problem. I might go order one right now....

A Volquartsen exact edge extractor helps. Other things that cause this is the rear lip of the magazine is interfering with the ejector so the round hits the ejector too high. You can solve this by filing the top of the rear half of the mag lips to lower it so it doesn't get in the way of the ejector.

Try the Volq. extractor first since that solves quite a few stovepipe problems with Mark II's.

If this is the problem you can also file down the baseplate of problem mags for MkII's since those are cheaper to replace if you screw it up. Wouldn't work for the 22/45s and Mk IIIs

The Volquartsen extractor ended this problem completely for my MK II.

Hint: try removing the old extractor with your fingers and the bolt inside a see-through produce bag. I didn't, and the old extractor launched. I may find it some day.
