New Surefire X300 Ultra Enhanced Model

Just got my Surefire X300U-B new enhanced model in the mail and so far I'm liking it a lot. It now features 600 lumens with 1.75 hours of "useful" runtime.

(Original on the top/left; enhanced model on the bottom/right)

Surefire has made several external enhancements with the biggest one being the new mounting system. It now features the same mounting system as the X400 and fixes what I feel like was the only shortcoming with the X300 series. It is now much easier to swap out the Universal and Picatinny rail adapters and, if like the X400, won't loosen up after lots of shooting as I have experienced.

The contour on the bottom of the body as it meets the back of the bezel is now much more pronounced:

The activation rocker switch on both sides is now a hair shorter and fatter which helps ease manipulation:

On the scale, the original Ultra came in at 4.10 oz. whereas the new enhanced model weighs 4.30 oz.

Yeah I bought a X300U-a few months ago on sale for a steal, must've been cause were coming out with the "b" model.

I decided to buy another X300 Ultra and had no idea it was the "b" model til I received it and read manual about the 600 lumens vs 500 on my previous model, also, as you said the mounting system is really simple now- just turn the screw. I didn't mind the previous system and always has stayed very secure on the 1911 I have it on but the new mounting system is just simpler.

Also, I haven't compared the light on the 500 lumen vs 600 lumen but assume roughly the same- I have read posts in the past saying 500 lumens way too bright for HD gun but honestly I have white walls and no glare issues whatsoever for me at night when I shine it- if anything it would be completely blinding to a would be attacker.

Was thinking of picking up another X300 ultra-b but thinking there will be another sale to get rid of the "a" versions w 500 lumens and 6 hex screw mount- and if on sale for $100 off as I bought my last one I can deal w 500 vs 600 lumens and the older mounting style- but yes you're definitely right I love the new model that you refer to in your post.

Although I only own these Surefires, since they're well over $200, the Streamlight TLR-1 or whatever the comparable model is, seems like quite a steal at around $100- probably best current value for a solid handgun rail light.

Awesome comparison. I have the TRL-1 HL. Nice light also for less price.

now if only they'd make one with a green laser... not that i have any lights with a laser nor do i need/want a laser for 95%+ of my shooting, but seeing as how it wouldn't be too much more to add/incorporate one (so many other companies have them now)...

And you can be sure that Surefire will update their X400 Ultra line with the new enhancements soon as well...

I also have a 300-lumen TLR-1 and it's a great light for the money. I run it on my AR.

500 lumens is already plenty for me but what sold me on the new X300U-B is the updated mounting system. It's gonna live on my 1911 now

Looks fantastic on your MC Operator. I've got the exact same pistol, but swapped the grip with G10 side plates. Awesome so far. Your pic really has me considering picking up a Surefire. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! The X300 Ultra fits the 1911 like marriage. I just had the 10-8 rear sight installed too. If you're looking for a magwell, I highly recommend the Nighthawk Custom one-piece unit:

Nice pics! I have one of my Surefire X300 Ultras on my SA TRP half rail and it's just awesome- I love the setup.
