    Smith 5906 review

Just curious what people think of this gun. Also would like to know if anybody has reviews on after market mags. Any information would be helpful.

    Thanks

My local LE used them for some time. Said they were reliable. If you get one and are looking for parts, I have a bunch. Few slides, barrels, small parts, 3 10rd mags, triggers, etc.

Does this qualify me for my opinion?

This pistol is very reliable. It will digest anything from FMJ to the weirdest profiled JHP. My one complaint with it is it's accuracy, it will do 4" at 25 yards and that should be good enough for government work. With all the newer 9mm being able to do 2" at 25 yards I just can't accept the fact that my trusted 5906 just don't have the accuracy confidence to blast an orange w/ one shot at 25 yards. Maybe an aftermarket barrel can bring the accuracy up on this nice piece.

I totally dig the old-school adjustable sights on the 4th Gen S&W autos

THey're nice. You'll see some quick wear on the aluminum frame's anodizing, but they are solid shooters and good values.

Had a 5904 for several years, always liked the feel of the grip and balance of it.

Good point rayra. Mine is an all stainless model, but I did shoot a few of friends' 5904s and 5906s that have alloy frames. Nice carry pieces, but the aluminum flakes coming off the rails weren't too comforting.

The 5906 guns are great. I had one a number of years ago and it was super reliable, had a great trigger, and was comfortable to shoot. Like an idiot, I sold it cheap to a coworker, and to date, have been unable to buy it back (He says he wouldn't sell it for anything). I've been buggin' the guys at River City to let me know if they ever get a 5906 TSW or 5906 PC (Yeah I know, good luck) in and I'll snag it. My experience has been that the later ones with the black trigger and hammer have the smoothest pulls.
