the rock has little upgrades that the springfield doesn't have hammer trigger safety and target sights i would go with the rock island i love mine i have 5 rock islands and 1 colt gold cup national match but the springfield can always have those upgrades added at a latr time good luck with your purchase

I too would choose the ria. I have the tactical and I really love it.

I would go with the RIA, the match is a lot of 1911 for a good price. I have the tac 5 because it was only 518 and has the important features of the Match except the match has slightly better sights and a trip to the custom shop. The RIA fills all my 1911 needs.

I have an older Springfield Mil Spec and a new RIA Tactical. I would go with the RIA. As Notabiker says, it has upgrades that are nice.
The only "issue" I've had with my two Rocks have been that they seem to have chambers that are a little tighter than my two Springfields. But that is only an issue if you reload.

I had a RIA Mach with a tight chamber and they reamed it out to spec for me. I reload so it wss a big deal to me.

An Astra or LLama, $175,
A Taurus for $181,
A Grizzley for $200,
An AMT, in stainless, $235,

Somebody always had a long ago and forgotten non standard discontinued out-of-business no parts available never heard from again piece of sheet knock-off can't find a magazine for just as good as a Colt 1911 priced special just for me for one day only 45.

I had a Rock Island 1911 Tactical, and a SA 1911 stainless mil spec. They might as well have been my own children... they were both different in tiny ways, but did not love one more than the other. Both performed great and looked awesome, but I will say the park finish on the RI wasn't my favorite because it scratched easy.

I have the RIA tactical and a SA mil-spec. The RIA required quite a bit of break in. The Mil-spec has been reliable from day one even with cheap range reloads. By far the mil-spec is a much nicer gun, better fit and finish. the finish on the RIA is already having some wearing from light use. The finish on the mil-spec is still like new.

I would go with the mil-spec, unless you really want those extra features on the RIA.

If you shoot 1911's enough you tend to appreciate the extended beavertail. The RIA sights are nice.

I have three rocks, a 45 and two 9's. Love all three. They shoot great give me no problems. Also have a 70 series colt. Love that one too. Really a matter of personal pref. Milspecs are nice for the purist look and feel, and springers are great guns.

How about you just buy both. Nobody can own just one 1911.

Being a huge SA fan I would still take the RIA in this particular situation since the Match does have a few extras the Mil Spec does not

I like my SA 1911 but at the price point I would go with the RIA match for all the features. You are really going to appreciate that beaver tail and fiber optic sights. The RIA also comes with a nicer trigger from the factory.

The Rock Island Armory 1911. All the way. Why? The RIA pistol will take Colt Series 70 parts. The Springfield will not. It's Series 80 and will require more fitting. I have 5 RIA 1911s. And, I installed Colt Series 70 parts in each. Way more user-friendly. Brownell's (www.brownells.com) will become your new best friend because of part availability and how easily you can get a gunsmith to swap out parts to fit your needs. I know a good gunsmith who has done that for me plenty: Mark Bunach (www.ocgunsmith.com). That's why I keep coming back to the RIA 1911. It's one of the few budget-friendly 1911's out there that is currently manufactured which can take semi-drop-in Colt parts. Cheers!

I bought a RIA GI from Turners 5 weeks ago. It was 498.00 out the door.

I bought a Springfield Mil- Spec from Buds, picked it up last night. It was 698.00 out the door.

The RI came with one mag. The Mil Spec came with 2 mags, holster, and double mag holster, plus the mail in rebate offers 2 more mags, 1 more double mag holster and a range bag.

I'd get the Mil Spec. All the stuff SA offers is hard to beat. The custom shop, warranty, just the extra stuff that comes with the gun is a bonus.
