Glock G19 shooting to the left...

    Hey folks,

I got my first handgun (a G19) about a month ago and after going straight into the range I noticed that all my shoots we on the left side of the target. As this was my first time shooting a handgun, and although I spend quite a few hours reading and watching videos, I assumed there was something I did wrong.

Two weeks ago I took the NRA basic pistol class, and all my shoots during the class the vast majority of my shoots were about where I was aiming, in good groups.

Today I went back to the range, shot again my Glock and, surprise surprise, all my shots are again to the left!

Frustrated I decided to rent a couple of other guns and see what's going on. So I went ahead and rented a Sig P226 and a CZ 75B. With the Sig P226, again like during my NRA course, I had very nice groups right in the center of the target. CZ 75B had a bit wide groups, but again nicely centered.

I was wondering, could it be something problem with my Glock? Why do I keep shooting to the left with it? Any advice?

I really want to like it, but I am thinking about trading it for something else...

That's a fairly common problem when transitioning from a standard type trigger to a striker system like the glock uses. Just try and remember to pull the trigger straight back and your shots should move to the center of the target. Good Luck!

I'm betting the gun is not shooting to the left. Instead, YOU are shooting to the left. I'm betting that the gun just does not fit you properly or, you're not holding it/pulling the trigger properly. While I have big hands, I have shorter fingers and stubby thumbs so, double stacked guns don't work well for me. Glocks have a weird grip angle on top of that. So, I just avoid shooting them as much as possible.

^^I think its a fit issue too. Where on your finger is the trigger when you shoot the Glock?

Assuming that the SIG and CZ were being shot in SA and that your G19 is stock, the trigger stroke will have longer travel and stack a bit before letoff.

What is happening is you are jerking the Glock trigger, in anticipation of the sights being aligned, from the first resistance point rather applying constant pressure all the way through.

The reason you were able to shoot centered groups during your class is because you were paying more attention to the trigger press than to placing your shots in the target.

The next time you shoot, slow down your trigger press and just gradually add pressure until the shot fires

Keep the thumb of your weak hand (assuming you are right handed) against the frame just along the rail, relax your grip just a bit. Practice. The G19 shoots like a laser beam - it's you not the gun. If you want to prove it, sit down and shoot it off some sandbags. The good news is, this is easy to fix with more time on the range.

Very true. I shoot my stock G19 Gen2 with a NY1 trigger spring much more efficiently and precisely, then I do with my G19 Gen3. The heavier NY1 trigger spring really makes you concentrate on making sure you have all your fundamentals down before you break that shot.

I recently took my pal to the range (first timer), and he experienced the same thing I did with my G19 gen2. We both agreed that we shoot better with the Gen2. JFYI, he did fantastic for his first time out and now he wants to be part of the PRO-2A club.

Do you even proper trigger pull bro?

Seriously though it's a pretty common issue. Work on pulling/squeezing straight back.

Wow! So many replies. Thanks folks!

Yeah, I was focusing completely on trigger control today; not trying to make the gun shoot, just pressing the trigger.

Also, yes I shot the Sig in SA, so good point!! I'll try the sig in DA next time.

Also thanks for the pointers about the grip. The gun does feel a bit small, so will adjust this a bit as well to see if it makes any difference.

If not, sold for a Sig :-P (joking)

                        Thanks all.

You must be right hand. Typical mistake for beginner.

Ask you friend to put a dummy round in the mag randomly. When you fire that round, all your mistakes will show up.

Don't forget to dry fire your Glock 19 every night.

Keep practice your trigger pull until your front sight stays completely still after the trigger break. Also ensure all your ammo's are removed far away from your handgun during the dry fire.
