The option to see the gun was not OFFERED an an option to me. I did not specifically ask and they did not ever OFFER.

    .
If you really were not given the option, then how did you know exactly what you were signing for? Sorry, I am not buying this.

I've got some ocean front property in Arizona for sale, you interested?

Wow, you got me there. I'll stop my rant.

wait- are you saying you agree with the law mandating a "safe handling demonstration"?

that for sure is failing I would forgive a dealer.

and, when did the OP say the gun was received/dros'd with an incorrect s/n? I see where he complains of getting the wrong product, not s/n.

the OP is a failure as a consumer- that doesn't equal troll.

Sure, the safe handling demo is a pain in the @ss, but I can't tell you how many times I have been purchasing/picking up a firearm and a brand new gun owner is there failing the demo. If it means the FFL has to take the time to explain and review safe handling, function, etc. with an inexperienced new owner, I'll suck up that 1 minute of my life any day of the week.

Good point re. the s/n; I guess I read that one into the story.

Me too. The safe handling demo is not a bad idea.

I was also told that I did not need a CA approved lock because it came with one. Upon picking up, there was no lock and transported it home without said lock.
              What?!?! How is that possible??

RE: safe gun handling demo. Usually, when I inspect the gun at the FFL, they're watching me for muzzle discipline, trigger finger out of guard, and that I cleared the gun when I picked it up. This is good enough that they don't usually give a handling demo afterwards.

                  LOL...

So if you don't take it out if the box, put it to your head and pull the trigger the FFL just decideds not to follow the law?

Maybe you should show him some of those advanced skills on your first visit and he will just skip the DROS and the 10 day wait as well.

The way I see it is that the FFL involved transferred the gun he received. He didn't order it and has no duty to inspect it to see if it was or wasn't what YOU ordered. The FFL verified that the SN was the same SN as on the paperwork. The issue was between you and the FFL you purchased it from until YOU transferred it. I suggest that you just try to get a refund for the difference and be happy with what you got. You can always buy the tacticool model in 30 days.

Then whoever signed off on your safe handling demo isn't doing it properly. You are REQUIRED to demonstrate how to safely load and unload it with snap caps or dummy rounds.

Have you learned not to trust gun shop employees yet?

Some will lecture you about 40s&w (or any caliber) is the scary Hammer of Thor that will make a pistol jump out of your hand and give you a black eye.

If there's an attached range, they may hand you the wrong caliber for your rental/demo.

They may misread your DROS and tell you that you were denied when you pickup when in fact everything was fine and you miss your window.

They may push customers into sales of items they've read about on a forum and never tried themselves.

You may end up signing the lease to a 2013 Toyota Corolla if you trust these geniuses.

Even worse, you may have to hold back your impressions of why many of them will never have successful LE or mil (or any) careers while trying to simply buy something.

In other words. They are human and make mistakes like all other humans.

Most gunshop employees are part time.

I don't see how they misread that you are denied when you pick it up though. In large letters it says "DENIED. DO NOT DELIVER" when you go to deliver a gun on the DROS system.

Understood. All subsequent purchases, I will insist on doing the demo. The law's the law. I don't want to get in trouble for something so stupid, nor would an FFL to get in trouble either (Doj does NOT make life easy for dealers to begin with, I'm sure they're looking for any reason to f over FFLs).
