    any socal gunsmiths?

i'm looking for a local gunsmith who does preferably teflon or melonite finishing. i know kings gunworks in glendale does bluing and some type of od finish, but i'm not sure of what type. i just prefer not to us an out of state gunsmith and ship my guns.

i've heard about duracoat, but i'd rather have a professional do the work.

    any help please.
    thanks.

I know that Ray, who works out of Iron Sights in Oceanside, has a place that he has coatings done at. I think he does bluing himself, and sends off parkerization.

You might want to call the range Monday evening, like around 9pm, and ask to speak to him. He's in on Mondays, and by 9pm things have generally died down enough that phone calls wouldn't be a big problem.

Have you used this company? I have been thinking about having them blue a gun. So few choices of people to do this type of work in Socal anymore.

Bain and Davis offers teflon but they may send it out. I know Matthews and Sons in Downey used to do it, but they're out of business now.

I know you dont want to ship, but for what its worth, I sent my S&W M66 to Robar in Arizona to have it refinished. RoGuard exterior with NP3 internals, and I'm very pleased with it.

Bain and Davis is in San Gabriel ph# 626-573-4241

Turnaround time from RoBar was about a month and a half. Regular price was 250 but I printed up a discount coupon from their website and got it done for 218.50. They also did excellent work to an 870 I used to own, but have since sold. I know they are always pretty busy, they build everything from custom 1911's to LAPD SWAT's sniper rifles.

The company that does "Melonite" is Burlington in Orange. I was also looking into an alternative "Black" finish besides bluing or the other spay-n-bake finishes and it does look promising. "Melonite" is the trade name for salt bath nitriding which is similar to the "Tenifer" on Glocks. However, be advised that if you have a closely fitted gun, the high temperatures that the process uses (900 - 1050 degrees) will alter the temper of your treated parts. Techplate offers this finish and also EGW in PA.

I have a really good smith in Glendora who does moly and duracoat finishing. PM me for details if it's not too far from you.
