Smith and Wesson 500 vs Desert Eagle

Need some advice, I've shot both. Loved them both but now want to buy one

I guess I need help with pros and cons of each one from someone who owns either or both

Decided to buy a early birthday present for myself and can't decide!

Smith, it will eat just about any load. Not so with a Desert Eagle.

What about value wise in the long run?

I have both and love them both equally, bot of them are equally useless and awesome at the same time. Buy both, can't afford both then buy 1 and save for the other.

I love the 4" Smith 500! It has a way better balance than the Deagle, and a huge variety in loads.

Having shot both quite a bit, my personal choice would be a Desert Eagle in .50AE.

The DE can have reliability issues with feeding, which doesn't bother me. It's more fun to shoot. Recoil is smooth and controllable allowing for relatively accurate rapid fire. The design is something really interesting because it's gas operated which is nearly unheard of in handguns. The bolt looks like a cousin of the AR15 bolt. If you're interested in that kinda stuff, it's a plus. Also - swapping out the barrel and caliber is an option, whereas you cannot do that with a Smith.

The Smith 500 feels more powerful to me and is a little more difficult to control. Feels like raw power compared to the DE. After 20-30 rounds, my hand does start to feel it, as opposed to the DE which I can shoot all day. Having an X-frame revolver is definitely something really cool and fun to shoot in small doses.

Ideally, you would have both, but I personally would start with a DE.

I'm leaning more towards the DE due too control. The Smith does getting annoying after sometime especially with the recoil

Does the DE hold its value more than the Smith in the long run?

I'd go for the 500 first. It will eat any ammo you put in it and I prefer the look of a nice big revolver but that's just me.

I have a big black 50, the 10 inch Israeli model, for sale in San Diego, 7 mags, molds, brass, ammo and such. I'll even let you play with it at P2K if you'd like. Heck, I'll bring my 500PC along so you can really develop that flinch.

                      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Beautiful gun! I'm always up for it, only problem is I'm not much of a fan of p2k. Ever stop be the gun range San Diego?

P2k is closer for me, but wasn't much of a fan of the Service from p2k

If you opt for the DE, I'd recommend you reload for it. Commercial 44 loads are generally not hot enough to consistently/reliably cycle the slide. 44 was designed for revolvers. If you buy commercial 50AE ammo, it will be expensive. Can use the same powder for 44/50 reloading, then you will have no feeding or consistency issues and you don't have to load them too hot either.

                              Have both. Love both also.

                              Sorry. No help. I know.
