I did that too, though I did buy some rubbery strips from some place on eBay or Amazon. I think it was just called "gun tape" or something, I've not used it yet, but it will likely go on a M&P Shield. I put rought skateboard tape on "competition" guns. I've also used bycicle innertubes.

I use hockey tape on my AR mags. Works well and doesn't come off even with sweat heat and dirt.

I also use skateboard tape, works great just applying it to the backstrap area of my revolvers. Kinda looks like a 9 with a reverse 9 on the right, just enough to catch the thumb web and forefinger joint at the top. The leg of the 9 is about .75" wide.
It's too much grip if used on the entire stock.

Used to love me some Trugrip on my Gen3 for gun games. Eric's website is still up, but I've read his shipping times are a problem for some...
It's always been his 2nd job.... Anyway, I find I don't need sandpaper on my Gen4.

How come you're looking for grip tape? Any pressing need or just want to try it?

I had the skateboard tape on my XD and hated it.

That must hurt if you carry and it rubs against your skin!
