Give Springfield a call with the serial number. I'm sure they will be able to tell you more about the gun

Springfield GI models have a serial number that begins in WW. The mil-specs s/n will start with an N or an NM.

The GI also has smaller sights and the ejection port isn't lowered.

          Mil-Spec:
          Lowered/Flared Ejection port
          Beveled Mag well
          Higher sights
          Angled Slide serations

Troll around Gunbroker and Guns America until you find one that fits the bill.

I could be wrong, but I believe that the GI model is the only 1911 they sell, that isn't custom, that does not have front serrations.

Around the Sacramento area the GI model is $500-$550 new.
Just to give a price comparison.
I think the Springer is better buy than an RIA

It's a fair price considering that Springfield's are hard to come by right now and they don't know when they can fill their orders.

Could be an after work, should have kept it stock IMO.

Did his dad say how long he has owned it?
