    Hera Arms Triarii question

I read all the threads previously on the Triarii and it seems 70% says its illegal 30% says its fine.

So I like to ask one more time, without adding any kind of stock or modification, is this thing legal?

I believe that would be considered a shroud, so would need a modified mag release button that requires a tool

    Also, why????

It's illegal (Federal & CA felonies), because adding it to a handgun would make a SBR.
It's also illegal to just possess it and possess a handgun that can use it.

In order to be legal, you will need BATFE approval to make a SBR and will also need a CA DOJ Dangerous Weapons Permit for a SBR.

Ways it can be used legally in CA...

          As a semi-auto rifle:
          1. Install a 16" or greater length barrel to handgun.
          2. Install maglock + 10 round magazine or grip wrap.
          3. Ensure the overall length will be 30" or greater, by using a long enough barrel and fixing the stock so it does fold/collapse.
          4. Install unit.
*Since it is now a rifle, you can not legally turn it back into a handgun. Because doing so, would now make it a SBR under CA laws (weapon from a rifle).

          As a semi-auto pistol:
          1. Remove stock from the unit and dispose of it.
          2. Install maglock + 10 round magazine to handgun.
*Need to dispose of the stock because possessing it and the handgun with unit, would be constructive possession of a SBR.
**The unit has a barrel shroud and a second handgrip, both of which are restricted features on semi-auto pistols that accept detachable magazines. Which is why a maglock + 10 round magazine is required.

            It doesn't come with stock.
It doesn't come with grip or guard. just charging lever.

It has a "barrel shroud", which is a restricted feature on semi-auto pistols that accept detachable magazines. [PC 30515(a)(4)(B)]

Therefore, it requires a maglock + 10 round magazine to be CA legal.

You would need to remove the entire forward portion to eliminate the "barrel shroud".
