    Help me understand

So lately I have been reading a lot of talk about CZ's and various other handguns that some say are unavailable in CA. Yet the other day I look at the approved roster list and found almost all of the popular CZ's and other pistols many talk about not being available. Am I missing something. I probably am because I am not very current when it comes to handguns.

Lots of models of lots of brands aren't easily available for sale here because of the roster..not so sure about czs cause I'm not interested in them. But lots of various brand 1911 models aren't available, gen 4 glocks, xdm series etc. And basically anything coming out in the future won't be available here

on roster alone doesn't make a handgun available. if the manufacturer doesn't provide the supply that runs in sync with demand, there will somewhere be a disparity in want vs have. and if the demand is high, supply can be quickly absorbed when examples are provided by the manufacturer.

The 75 series have not changed much (since 1975/1990 - B's), so CZ can just continue to make them as is. I do not think they have let one drop since the roster started in 2001.

CZ's line up changes slightly from year to year, but they currently offer 31 handguns: http://cz-usa.com/product-category/handguns/ Our roster only approves of 18.

I only have 2 CZ's currently, I can see at least 5 off roster that I want to buy. I am just waiting to get out of state.

it's worth mentioning that there are handguns that are on roster that are no longer in production. for example, the Sig Sauer P6 (P.W. Arms) is still on roster and is not a current production handgun.

does this mean they plan on making them again?

Maybe, but not necessarily. I think some manufacturers keep them on the roster just out of courtesy to their customers who already bought them. Beretta has a bunch on the roster that are out of production. They do restart production Gen 3 G20 (full size frame) on the roster, and I would be very surprised if they were to restart production. Not sure why they are keeping it on roster but wouldn't be surprised if its just a transition while all of the G2-'s in inventory get blown out, or maybe they renewed for two years and at the beginning of the two years there were a few in the distribution channels.

the P6 was never manufactured for the civilian population in the first place. the P6 was originally made for the w german police and later imported here in the US. the on roster example must be from the importer P.W. Arms to qualify as on roster.

the P225 was available to the US civilian market. it is out of production and not on roster. a new "reinvented" P225-A1 is now available to the civilian population of states that do not restrict it's purchase (not on roster). it appears to be both similar and 'not' similar to the P225.

variants of the P6 and P225 can still be purchased via PPT and via consignment purchase.
