Shipping out of state an Off-Roster pistol to a custom builder okay?

Not a factory warranty gun smith'ing.

Can you ship out of state your off-roster pistol (PPQ, Gen4, Shadow, 2011, what have you) to a custom gunsmith for custom work and expect it to come back to you no problem?

I would assume yes because when it comes back, it goes directly to your house and not an FFL.
