So I went to Field Time yesterday with my friends to shoot a couple of ARs and some pistols. For the ARs, I brought my RifleGear lower/PSA 18" .223 wylde rifle length gas system and my friend brought his War Sport. I also brought my wife's CZ SP-01 that was modified by CGW. My friends brought a SA 1911 9mm, CZ SA 9mm, Beretta 92fs, and Sig SP2022.
Since I'm a 1911 guy, I obviously enjoyed shooting the 1911 the most, but what I found interesting was how slow the slide action was. I could literally see the slide move during recoil and it felt slow since I shoot my 1911s in .45. I'm not sure if this is how all 9mm 1911s are, but it just felt weird to me.
I've never shot a Beretta before, but I must say that I was really surprised how good the trigger was. There was minimal creep and it broke clean. There were a couple of things I didn't like shooing it though. The beavertail dug into the rear of my thumb. None of my pistols with beavertails do this. The second thing was that my left-hand thumb on the frame felt awkward due to the slide release. Other than that, the Beretta is pretty damn impressive.
My other friend's Sig, well, I could never shoot a Sig straight. I have a P220 Match Elite and my shots usually land left of my POI. My friend's SP2022 was no exception. The trigger was also mushy.
It was also my first time shooting a CZ SA 9mm. Man I've been spoiled by CGW. The reach of the SA felt a mile long, while my wife's CGW SP-01 with flat trigger felt like there was no effort for reach. Both felt right at home though.
I'm not a big AR guy and obviously, you won't see a difference at an indoor range with a $2000 AR vs a cheapie, so I won't opine on the War Sport vs my Frankenstein build, but his was louder due to the shorter barrel length.
My friends all loved my wife's CGW CZ. Even the guy checking us in asked if my wife wanted to sell it, which I promptly said "no."
It was also my wife's best friend's time shooting and she was nervous with the handguns, but she enjoyed shooting the ARs and had fun and had a good time.
It's always fun going to the range with friends, it's also fun when you get to try something you haven't before. Since I'm done buying for a while, I hope my friends buy something I haven't tried yet
