anyway to still get off-roster DA S&W revolver?

I heard and savy FFL could turn a S&W DA into a SA or single shot by removing a part, etc.

Does that still work for new gun buy in CA?

I'm interested in a S&W 357 7" barrel, 7 shot "custom" I've seen actually AVAILABLE on Bud's from time to time for a very reasonable sub Grand price.

Will Bud's ship such a piece to a CA FFL, or would I need to setup a relay team? Any recommendations for what should be a simple relay from Bud's to non-CA FFL to Bay Area FFL?

Just seems like nice very practical (357 makes good use of every extra inch, right?) yet semi-special gun. I'd call it my "Seven and Seven" after the drink.

I know I wouldn't go wrong with a cheaper and easier Ruger 357 6", but the S&W 7&7 is calling me.

PS-any S&W 7n7s on GunBroker or GunsAmerica etc? Maybe I'm not searching right. I've ONLY seen them on Bud's.

The single-action revolver exemption is still in effect and has not been altered since it's enactment.

Please read the sticky at the top of the forums. Single Action Exemption is still in effect.

Do not know what Bud's policy is on shipping off-Roster handguns to CA.

I believe audiophil2 (AZ FFL/SOT) can do a SAE modification on off-Roster revolvers.
So, you can arraign to have the off-Roster revolver shipped to him, he then modifies it, and ships it to your CA FFL dealer.

Yes single action revolvers are exempt, no, budsgunshop will not sell something of that nature to anyone with a california billing address. Do a search here on calguns, you will see budsgunshop is not CA friendly. plenty of people tried to get their help during the SSE years to no avail, even when trying to use out of state FFL middlemen

Thx, I've heard diff stories on whether a gun can be shipped to CA FFL for pre-sale mods. I guess I'll need to make sure the CA FFL is hip so they wont freak out about a non-rostered now SA gun showing up.

Now I'm wondering how I get the money to Bud's from my CA based bank/CC without them getting cold feet. Maybe I send Audiophil2 the money and he deals with Bud's?

Sounds like Smart Move would be to keep Bud's in the dark about my CA-Curse and have an out of state party do the actual buy.

Reminds me of sending in a bum to buy liquor when I was under 21. The store wouldn't sell if they saw a "straw buy", so you had to send in the wino on his own, and hope and pray.

This ^^^ the Single action exemption still exists but you need to make sure your seller is willing to ship the gun to your FFL here in occupied territory. Where are you located? I have brought several non roster revolvers into the state using OC Armory in Lake Forrest for the Single Action Exemption.

                    It sounds expensive.

You must be hearing things again, because it was made pretty clear that Bud's is not helping us in CA, and thus it would be a great disservice to shops that DO support us to give Buds your money.

I believe there's a significant drop-off in benefit to cost ratio past 6 inches, but if you're dead set on a 7 inch barrel I hope you get it

Yep, OC Armory works great for SAE!

I just SAE'd a S&W 586L-Comp. I had my local FFL order it and have it shipped to Jamie at 2A Zone (Baboosh here on boards) in Southern CA and he performed the SAE conversion and shipped to my Northern CA FFL. After the DROS I dropped part back in. If you are competent with S&W revolvers it's an easy drop in. If not, just about any "competent" gunsmith can do it in 15 minutes or less.
