G19 popularity over G23- Why?

With the exception of Glock haters, when speaking of Glocks it seems the g19 is one of the favorites. I also see that the G23 doesn't get a lot of love. I'm curious as to why. The G23 can essentially become a G19 with a $100 conversion barrel. At that point isn't it the same gun but with options?

I understand that 9mm is always cheaper that 40S&W.

I know the G23 can also run a 357 Sig barrel as well but I'm not even getting into that aspect. Why the lack of love like the G19?

I dont know about everyone else, but I'm just not a fan of 40, so why not save the $100 and get the g19 in the first place

I don't dislike 40 but since I carry 9 I pretty much only shoot 9.

The cold hard truth is that most people do better work with the 9mm and that is why. I'd say in my experience as a salesman 40s tend to be the biggest with the newbies who think bigger and faster is always better.

Can you make a 23 shoot 9mm with a change of a barrel? Well, you atleast need a new magazine. But you can but not reliably. To make it more reliable you get swap ejectors but it still isn't the same thing. You still have a different slide and extractor.

Case in point, my first handgun was a 23. It was an aweful experience that turned me off to 40, I quickly learned I can do EVERYTHING better with 9mm. Now I am a 9mm kool aid drinker.

I have a g19 and g23. I like both a lot and would never get rid of either one, they both shoot great. If I had to choose one or the other I would pick the g23 because of its versatility. The g19 has the best capacity but the g23 is right behind it. I don't really care to convert calibers in my guns but I do have conversion barrels just in case I ever needed to. I would rather have separate guns. I personally feel better carrying a g23 but at night I keep the g19 close because it holds more rounds and is a little softer shooting.

I bought my G23 in the mid-90's when the .40 S&W was all the rage. I already had a collection of Wondernines so I never picked up a G19. I carry my G23 90% of the time since I stockpiled mags. Hopefully, I won't need to move to Nevada to keep them.

While the last thing I am interested in doing is fueling a caliber war, but in a practical sense, both the 9mm and the .40 caliber fill the same role. While the .40 cal supporters will point to ballistic tables to “prove” that the .40 is a superior caliber, the 9 mm supporters will discuss the effectiveness of each on the “street’ where it matters. There is no real difference between the two as it relates to effectiveness. The 9 MM is more universally available, easier to find, cheaper, and easier to shoot.

I thought about buying a G23 and converting, but opted for a G19. Why? Because instead of buying a conversion barrel (and mags) to convert the G23 to 9mm, I decided I'd rather spend money on better sights and extra mags.

Buy a G23 so you have the "option" to convert to 9mm.

Convert to 9mm, never shoot .40/.357 sig again, then wonder why I paid $499 + $150 for a Glock 19 that says Glock 23 on the side.

because now the majority consensus now is that .40 is not that great of a round at all. The recoil impulse sucks. You can shoot 9mm faster and keep it on target more easily, and modern 9mm defense rounds get the job done as well as .40/.45

In my case I already have plenty of Hi Cap and standard cap 9mm mags so it's a barrel change in my case.

I had a hard time getting good accuracy with my G23. I had to make more than a few trips to the range to start getting solid groupings. Not the case for my other pistols. For a while it was the pistol I shot the worst. It was recommended to me to hit the range a bunch with it before I gave up on it and in the end I'm glad I kept it.

because .40 sucks man. Even in USPSA I choose to shoot limited minor (9mm), even though I could be shooting low power .40
