T/C "suggests" staying with Trapdoor loads, but I've noticed and used loadings that put it with the Marlin and one especially brutal to shoot load (300 JHP @ 2,100 fps from a 14" barrel) that approaches No1 levels. I've always been interested in the BFR, am curious as to what levels it easily handles.
I've done 405 grain hardcast at 1500 FPS with my 16.5" Bull barrel TC Contender with muzzle tamer. That's about as much fun I can handle.

One thing about non gas checked hard cast bullets is if you push them too fast you'll be having a hard time cleaning your barrel.

That's what I heard. I got these with the intent of doing reduced loads with trail boss and tin star powder.

If all goes right I should have some chrono data next weeks to see how similar those two powders are.

I love my BFR in 45-70 ! Its my first handgun, revolver and big bore gun. I learned to reload for this gun from hand casted wheel weight 300gr (modified mold) to 500gr FMJ "pills". This is the 10.5 inch version. And I am using Hogue mono grips on it now. I also got a drop leg holster. I also included some destruction videos below. Ice block and Pumpkin were shot with hot-rodded 405gr hardcast wheel weight and 300gr JHP.
And my brother bought the matching rifle the same day I bought this, Marlin 1895 45-70.

A very fun and awesome piece of overbuilt engineering!

Consider putting a scope on it. Helped this one out a lot

Oh wow! Okay...I'm convinced now...as a .45-70 Gov't lover, I must certainly own one of those. It's just a matter of time and money... --1911ShooterPhil

Does BFR stand for Big Friggin Recoil

Nice OP, I guess you don't have to worry about shoulder pain shooting that gun
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Nice hand canon and price seems fair too. Are these roster exempt because single action?

I've used them, they work fine although I can't recall max FPS. I also like Bear Creek, they carry some sort of moly type dry lube and are hard cast. Check out Penn Bullets, they have some nice spire pointed and "hammerhead" profile too.
