OLL AR pistol question

I did a search but did not find anything. My question is: I seem to remember reading somewhere that a pistol could not have a hand guard surrounding the barrel, Is that true?

A handguard is not a barrel shroud and is no longer applicable in federal law. I'm unaware of CA law that prohibits it.
